Scaler 3 activation problem

Just upgraded to scaler 3, via plugin boutique. Opened a Scaler music account and entered the redeem code. Got my serial number, downloaded and installed Scaler 3. When it came to activating the registration box kept saying it couldn’t connect to the server and try again. My scaler 3 is now still in trail mode yet my account is now showing that I have USED UP all 3 activations. I’m absolutely at my wits end, what was to have been a pleasant morning exploring the new software has been wasted and ruined by over zealous protection that stops paid up users from enjoying their purchase. If the software cannot connect to the server, then WHY have all my activations suddenly been used up and I’m left stranded?
UPDATE: Scaler Music have increased my activations from 3 to 5. However because the software is not activated, so in reality what they’ve done is reduce my original 3 activations down to 2. Like a government dept they don’t address not telling buyers they only get 3 chances and in my case (a dissident) it’s down to 2 chances. They wanted me to mark it resolved but it is far from that, now I am very annoyed at their poor customer service… I just want my money back.

Did you try to contact directly Plugin Boutique? They should be able to help you.

I’m going to be asking them for a refund. I’ve opened a ticket with Scaler music but I’m really not happy with the situation. In the past I could download Scaler from Plugin boutique’s site, input my serial and the all was good. But now the process from Plugin Boutique is that you have to open a Scaler music account and use a redeem code to get the download & serial number, plus you only get 3 activations and as far as I can see no way to uninstall to reclaim any, so it’s like iLok but without uninstall options. So whilst plugin Boutique took my money, Scaler Music are the one I am left dealing with. It’s been a big disappointment, the product won’t register and they claim all 3 activations are used up. I feel ripped off and frustrated that my morning has been wasted.

I suppose that you cannot do much on your side, but what would you recommend to users having problems with activation?

Absolutely no problem by my side …

I wouldn’t have thought this was plug-in boutique’s issue technically..unless the operate scaler3’s authentication servers. do they? I guess they are the ones who need to process the refund though if it comes to that. If I’d have realised this type of licensing was to be employed I doubt I would have purchased my copy.

I had a similar issue with WA productions. I bought £100s of their software during Covid when I first started playing with this gear. I never actually got round to using any of it but over the year I loaded all plug-in boutique software onto a machine with full intention of getting to grips with it only to rebuild my pc a few times. When I finally came to use the software about a year later I found I had no licences left and no way of activating anything. I decided NEVER to buy from WA Productions again.

The Plugin Boutique support team is very helpful, so contact them and they will be able to help you.
They already fixed similar issues in the past.

Same here regarding limited number of activations. Had same issue with WA products & Air plugins Air being on iLok and where I no longer had an old machine which meant I couldn’t deactivate anything to reduce listed activations. I’ve asked Plugin Boutiques account dept for a refund, if they decline then I’ll go via PayPal. There was no mention in the hype about the release that a new feature was going to be limited activations or plugin Boutique’s buyers needing to open a new account with Scaler Music account or that the way of registering the download via a server was needed. This never seems to end well so I won’t be interested in Scaler anymore, they’ve ruined the whole thing for me with their over zealous security and faulty limiting registration system. I just want my money back now.

Yes, but I just want my money back now. Limitations on activating and the way their server snatched them without activating the software was a trust killer for me. I wish I’d never purchased now, it’s wasted too much of my time and I’ve got the hassle of jumping through hoops to get my money back. I’m not happy with Plugin Boutique or Scaler Music with their faulty updated registration process.

for me as long as the registration is once ie not requiring to call home anytime and the 3 licenses are not 3 single lifetime activations that dont allow for moving machines i am still very interested in scaler 3. the current problem is that there has been no communication so i am in limbo. afaik we have 14 days if its not been used. not sure if they will accept technical issues as part of that..but imo they should. but so far i cant even take a look at it because i would have to download it and thus not be eligeable for refund. maybe i can get a demo goimg in the mean time btw sorry for bad writing but im on a remote connection with a tiny keyboard that i can hardly see lol

I’ve now got two (not Scaler) products I have bought at Plugin Boutique that I can no longer activate because they say I have used them all up. I haven’t and they just don’t care. That is why I will not deal with PiB any longer, which gives me a dilemma when upgrading Scaler 3. I’ll wait to see if Davide and the team come up with some way I can move my licence to Scaler Music and upgrade from there. Otherwise they lose the sale and I’ll stick with Scaler 2. Or maybe there will be a hefty discount on a new S3 licence at some point. That might tempt me.

But Plugin Boutique are not to be trusted in my view.

Had same issue in stand alone mode and then tried within my DAW, Ableton and it worked.
Also MAC.

I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ve purchased Scaler, Scaler 2, and pre-ordered Scaler 3.

I was excited this morning to download and install it. I was irritated when I was required to make a new account. When I’d finished with this frustration, I noticed the limited activations, which irritated me. I’m a tinkerer, constantly upgrading and changing my computer, and making new computers. I love my hardware iLok key, as I can just move my licenses to my new hardware. This sort of thing, especially when not noted before purchase, is an absolute no-go for me.

I don’t pirate ANYTHING, and I diligently support developers who make software I use. To punish your loyal users in this way is unforgivable. People who are willing to pirate your software won’t have ANY of the frustrations that your paying users do. Punishing your fans will never work out well.

The final slap in the face? When I’d finished setting up my required new account, and tried to download it, I receive this:

Too many requests

Completely unacceptable. And now I’m learning that MIDI routing options in Ableton Live is limited (more so than in Scaler 2). This wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the pre-release videos, and people in the forum are being told, “it was in the manual…” The manual WASN’T AVAILABLE before release…

I asking plugin boutique for a refund. If it’s not granted I’ll call my credit card company. Scaler has permanently lost my business. There’s plenty of other software.

I know that this is frustrating and I have no idea what is going on, but before you ask for refund, ask Plugin Boutique for help. Scaler 3 is worth every penny once you make it working.

I’m experiencing similar issues. I purchased from PluginBoutique. I redeemed on Scaler Music site. It added Scaler 3 to My Products. I click on the Mac Installer link. It goes to a Dropbox link. Then times out with this error message: Too many requests

Sorry, this link has been automatically turned off for now. Learn more about traffic limits.

Seems like the software was placed on Dropbox for customers to download, but cannot handle the request traffic. Maybe Scaler Music should provide another viable way to download. I too am very disappointed about this process.

Too many steps to not get something I instantly paid for. Quite frustrating. I opened a support ticket. Wait and see…

I actually just had that issue 5 minutes ago. I use Reaper but it may be the DAW that is blocking access to the server. I opened up the standalone and registered it fine and it now works in my DAW as well. I had things happen with a few plugins in the past in the same fashion. I’d say give that a try.

It’s only been a few hours. I can’t imagine that they won’t be able to fix it for you. I had my own problem where it redeemed and gave me a code, but it doesn’t show in my products list. However, I was able to download the trial version and input the registration code there, so everything ended up working fine.

It’s really not for me anymore, I still just want to get a refund. Especially with it now having just 3 activations. I won’t be investing any more time with it.

I think the Scaler Music website may be down, anyone else having problems connecting to it?
Edit: For some reason I could get there using a vpn set to USA.
Scaler Music have increased my activations from 3 to 5. However because the software is not activated, in reality what they’ve done is reduce my original 3 activations down to 2. God how I now wish I’d not bothered to buy this crap!

Hi @trevh1

Works fine to me.
