Only 3 activations for Scaler 3?

I understand that copy protection is required.

Scaler has used a great simple serial in the past. I purchased the update to 3 and now I am faced with only 3 activations?

How can I disable activations again? What happens if my Macbook falls on the floor and won’t boot?

I’m super unhappy about this and there’s not even a note in the “system requirements” at pluigin boutique.

I know you guys are cool and friendly developers, but it still really really annoys me.

I just noticed this too. Seems like a very strange way of dealing with “copy protection”.

I format and re-install my Mac from time to time. Which would make me use up my 3 activations very quick. Don’t feel like buying a new copy of.scaler 3 every three times.

Really hope they fix this in some way. Let us deactivate a “machine” would be very nice.

Yep we will definitely allow users to deactivate and reactivate. Please bear in mind Scaler 2 had virtually no copy protection so we wanted to introduce something more protective. Three activations is fair and on par with all the other plus I use but we need to allows user access to deactivate. Will happen hopefully soon. If anyone runs out of activations I am sure support can address that in the meantime!

The most obvious reasons someone may not be able to deactivate is a hard drive failure for example. I been through a few of those.

Yeah, if the “deactivation” process is like Melody Sauce—where you can easily deactivate a device from the website—that’s pretty user-friendly, and I can see how a 3-activation limit would make sense. But if it’s more like a DAW or plugin-style deauthorization, then 3 just isn’t enough. For example, IK Multimedia gives us 10 activations and even replenishes them if needed. Compared to the rest of the software industry, this approach feels unnecessarily cumbersome and is honestly my least favorite part of the ecosystem.

Was also really disappointed by this change in the authorization process. Might want to update the FAQ to note a change to allow deauthorization will be coming. The reason I came over to the forum was to express outrage over this, given this is 2025 and many people own multiple computers and also refresh and change systems very frequently. I get the idea of protecting your work, but there are companies (ex. Melda, United Plugins, Audiority, Acon Digital, etc) that still use authorization files and just like the previous versions of Scaler and Carbon Electra.

"You can install Scaler 3 on multiple computers. Scaler 3’s license permits installation on up to three computers as long as you are the primary user and the installations are not used simultaneously.

For more specific details about your license, refer to the End User License Agreement (EULA) after running the Scaler 3 installer. If you need to install Scaler 3 on additional computers beyond the allowed limit, you may need to purchase additional licenses."

I sent a support ticket asking about this and got the answer “Please let us know when you need additional activations and we will be happy to help.” That is nice and all, but not entirely convenient. Sending support emails and wait a few days to get it. Would be a much better system to let the user activate/deactivate in the product page or in the app itself. Is this something that will be implemented?
