Certain third-party instruments not appearing in Scaler 3 for some users

For some reasons Vital will not appear in the list of Instruments, but my other Instrument VSTs will. Is that known or expected? Will other Synthesizers like Serum and Fragment show up for others?

It’s a pretty big deal for me.

Hi @THEAETIK ,

Vital seems to be ok on my side (Mac, Scaler 3 v1.0.5). I can see 3 Vital in the Instrument list : Vital Audio Unit, VST3 and VST. The screenshot below is with Audio Unit.

Is there anything special in the plugins.log file after a Plugins Scan ?

Hope you will find a way.
Cheers

When I launch a rescan it will say an error occurred (Error 2) - I’m using [everything] and I don’t see any log file updated after the fact. Where is the file meant to be located? If it’s C:\Program Files\Scaler Music\Scaler 3 there’s nothing there, couldn’t find anything in appdata either.

I’m not on Windows but check this post it might help Scaler 3.05 VST3 in Windows 10 scan fails with error 2 and no new plugins seen

Cheers

I followed the steps, I’m now past Error 2. It found 7 plugins, but they are the same plugins that were previously discovered. Vital is still not showing up.

I suppose I’ll wait for the next update, where searching specific folders is supported.

Reaktor 6 is not showing up as an Instrument, although other NI Instruments do appear (Kontakt, Massive X, et.). The VST3 is installed in the default MacOS location. I rebooted, restarted Live, and I rescaned the plugins. I found a workaround by setting the Instrument to “No Instrument” and adding “Reaktor 6 FX” as an effect plugin on the track, but that is as pretty terrible solution.

(Scaler 3 v1.0.3 VST3, Ableton Live 12.1.11, MacOS 15.3.2)

Hi @mindthump, thanks for your post. I agree using Reaktor 6 FX isn’t an ideal solution. Reaktor 6 is available on my end, though my setup is a bit different: Scaler 3.1.0.5 (VST3/VST/AU all working), Ableton Live 11, macOS 14.7.4.

Bit of an odd one. You could try updating to Scaler 3 v1.0.5 to see if that makes a difference. I’ll ask someone on the team to test with macOS Sequoia and Live 12. Maybe others here on the forum can chime in too.

Thanks for looking at this. I upgraded to Scaler 3 v1.0.7 and I still don’t see it. I might try re-installing Reaktor and see what happens.

EDIT: I reinstalled Reaktor 6 (and the ‘Form’ instrument for it), then rebooted my Mac. I went to Scaler 3 inside Ableton Live 12 and used the “Rescan your plugins” button in Preferences.

Here’s the weird part: As it was scanning the plugins the dialog actually showed Reaktor 6 flash by as it scanned. Still, it does not show up in the Instruments list. In the Manufacturer list I see an entry for “Native Instruments” with their other products (Kontact 8, Battery, Massive X) and now I also see an entry for “Native Instruments GmbH” but the sublist is empty.

Just wanted to chime in, all my VSTs are finally detectable with v1.0.7. Thanks!

I’m using Mixcraft 10 pro studio DAW and my Orchestra vst shows in plugin manager and I’m able to load it and use it on a Mixcraft track however it’s not showing in Scaler 3’s list of vsts.
Any help gratefully accepted.

Vital in Scaler 3.1

I have the Vital synth plug-in, integrated into Ableton live with no issue, but it won’t show up in Scaler 3. I do have a couple of VST plug-ins that are working in scaler, but somehow not vital.Any suggestions?

Hi @TimB, welcome to the forum. Thanks for your post – I’ve moved it to this thread so we can keep track of instances where certain third-party instruments don’t appear in Scaler 3 for some users.

THEAETIK also reported not seeing Vital in Scaler 3, but later confirmed that it’s now showing for them in v1.0.7. Interestingly, Vital has always appeared on my system (macOS) and for others here as well.

You could try using the Rescan function via Settings > Preferences. If Vital was installed outside the default location, you can also add a custom VST path via the Plugin Scanner.

Just a heads up: as you probably noticed the first time, the scan process can take a while depending on how many plugins are installed on your system.

Let me know if that helps. Cheers.

When I do a re-scan I get the error message “error occurred while scanning your plug-ins! (Error 2)”. Have attached the screen grab showing that I do have other VST plug-ins accessible. When I installed the vital plug-in, I just took the default installation options. And as I mentioned, the plug-in works without issue in Ableton live. I’m using it on Windows, Win 11. The scaler version is 3.1.0.4B1E963.

Hi @TimB, thanks for your reply.

The Error 2 message during plugin scan is a known issue affecting some Windows users. It typically relates to a permissions problem with the Scaler 3 folder.

Please try and assign full rights to the C:\ProgramData\Scaler Music\Scaler 3 folder via right-click > properties > general > security tab. Or for a temporary fix, run the Scaler 3 standalone app via right-click > run as administrator.

I now am not able to run Scaler stand alone. It will load OK in Ableton Live, but I need to be able to use it stand alone.

When I run it, it loads and is visible for about 5 seconds, then closes.

I have:

Run as admin
Uninstalled and reinstalled
Rebooted my PC (windows 11)

Sorry to hear this. We’re planning to release Scaler 3.1.1 soon which includes a fix for standalone crashing on open. You can bookmark the Scaler 3 Latest Version thread to be notified of updates. Thanks for your patience. Cheers.
