Suggest Mode

Hello everyone.

In the Scaler 3 - Suggest Mode Tutorial on YouTube, Davide uses the suggest feature on the Sketch Page to generate multiple great sounding chord progressions. All the chords are coloured blue. https://youtu.be/JK-K3RIKLOQ?si=W2GtFL7I15BW1ypI

I tried doing the same and the progressions that are generated don’t sound good. Only a few of the chords in my progressions are coloured blue.

Why are Davide’s progressions coloured blue and sound great, but mine are not blue and sound a bit strange?

Also, why do all the chords change when he enables minimise movement?

Thanks.

If you suggest without a scale selected in Sketch Page then it will generate chord progressions not based on a scale hence they won’t be blue (as opposed to suggesting in Sketch Page with a scale selected).

That’s because you are prioritising Voice Leading with ‘Minimise Movement’ so it suggest chords with fewer movements

Thanks for your reply Davide. In the Scaler 3 - Suggest Mode Tutorial on YouTube, you generate the progressions with no scale selected and they’re all blue and sound great. How come?

Is it possible to retain a chord that’s suggested before minimise movement is enabled, or is is just a matter of dragging it out beforehand?

Sometimes they are grey and sometimes they are not. That’s generative. If a scale is not selected the colours are arbitrary. Or for a more technical explanation we need to show some colors so we ‘presume’ you have C Major. Don’t worry about that though. Grey or Blue does not indicate how ‘good they sound’ with no scale selected.

Just turn Minimise Movement off and it will revert the suggestion back. Or drag out as you suggested.

Thanks Davide. Maybe you just got lucky with your progressions? The chords of each of your progressions sound like they belong together, whereas mine don’t sound related at all.

Noted re minimise movement.
