Issues (bugs?) with suggest window...

I’m a new user on S3.1 standalone on Windows and am seeing some weird behavior when using the Suggest window on the Arrange (C) part of the main page. First, when I find a chord in the Suggest windows that I want to add, often when I drag it down to the main track the voicing is nothing like what I heard what it played the chord from the Suggest box. I have minimize movement selected, but once the chord is added to the main track it’s not the same voicing. If I delete it and re-add it once or twice, it gets it right and mirrors what I heard in the Suggest windows. Secondly, one or two of the chords in the Suggest window always play at very low volume and fade out in like half a second. Barely enough time to hear them- but it’s only with one or two of the suggested chords. The rest play fine. I’m using the built in felt piano, so it’s not a VST issue.

I really love Scaler so far and know it’s evolving, but I’d like to add that it definitely has some quirky UI elements that I’m still getting used to. I’ve watched all the videos, but there are still a lot of behaviors I can’t figure out. For example, I write something and set the scale in section B, but when I restart the program it’s always defaulting to something else. I don’t even know why it matters unless you’re binding things to midi notes because none of the other pages seem to pay attention to it. And on the sketch pad page, why can’t I bring up a suggestion box like with the main page? I hit the light bulb and it fills in a bunch of chords. I know I’m new and maybe it’ll all make sense, so it very well could be my not having enough experience, but it just seems like some things aren’t consistent and it’s a little frustrating at the moment because I really can’t figure out a good workflow. I’d like to see the help bubbles give more detail and more functionality on the sketch pad because I keep having to throw everything onto the main track since all the other pages basically require that (or using the sketch pad, which, again, is so limited.) I’ll watch the videos again as I’m probably not understating some things, but any tips on how to manage all this would be appreciated. Thanks for making such a great program- I’ve already got 2 songs on the burner with great progressions I’d never have pulled out of my brain. Haven’t even tried arps or multi tracks yet! -Brian

Hi Brian, welcome to the forum. Pleased to hear you are enjoying using Scaler 3. There is unfortunately a bug in the current release causing some chords to cut off quickly when using the Minimize Movement option. This will be addressed in an upcoming update.

I’m not sure I’ve encountered chord’s voicings changing when dragging from the suggest window to the main track. Make sure you have updated to the latest v3.1 release then reboot. Maybe you could share a video if it continues to happen.

The Sketch page suggest buttons act as generators to fill the current progression unlike the main track suggest button which takes specifically takes into account aspects of the main track progression. But it might be nice to add this to the sketch page progressions too as there are plans to improve several aspects of the sketch page. There is another major update scheduled for later this year with lots of useful workflow improvements and new features, so stay tuned to the forum for more news!

Thank you for the info! I’m glad the cutoff thing is a known bug. And it would be great to integrate more things with the sketch page or sketch space on other pages and I’m wishing I had 10 more main tracks. But I’m sure you have an endless stream of in-house and suggested ideas. I started watching some third party videos and between everything I think it’s making sense. Thank you for the quick reply. Again, this software is phenomenal. I had something similar (but not as comprehensive) for the iPad several years back (forget the name), but they stopped developing it and an iOS update broke it, so Scaler makes me extra happy.
