Sorry if this is extremely simply and I am missing something, but I tried to search the manual.
When someone was asking about how a chord sounded in a progression on discord, I loaded up the standalone app to see if different voicings sounded better. This seemed like an awesome use for the standalone app!
1.) I cannot figure out how to add a single chord, and then view different voicings and variations for it. The color tab only seems to work for a chord set you add/load.
2.) I have to right click to edit the chord. But do you right click again to stop editing? It seems like there would be a button somewhere to toggle chord editing on/off (where you can edit it down at the bottom).
Please feel free to give any other tips/ideas around these topics. I just want to be able to quickly edit and view variations of a single chord.
Welcome to the forum @hed0rah
There’s lots of things you can do here but right click > Edit Chord will take you to the Circle of Fifths Page and give you variations of that chord right there.
Also if you click on the Chord/Note in the Circle of Fifths page you will get more suggestions.
If it is your only chord by this stage its chosen it as your scale in which case the colors page, modulation pages etc can give you many more variations.
Hope that all makes sense.
Please do watch the tutorials on our YouTube channel.
Hi, thanks for taking your time to respond, but I am looking for a way to see different voicings of a chord. If you enter a chord on the circle of fifths mode, and then go to Colors, it is empty. If you switch one of the voicings, it does pull up chords at that point, but it is for a scale and not necessarily for your chord.
I do think you make a good point that chord editing should be done on the circle of fifths page, although it would still be nice to have a “chord edit” button on all pages maybe next to the Semi +/- on bottom right above keybd
Hello, when you select “Edit Chord”, it takes you to the Circle of Fifths page. Sometimes I just want to enter in the name of the new chord directly. Is there a way to do that?
Welcome to the community @FWSchreck The C05 page is one of the areas to edit or create chords. It’s the only area to manually search for a chord too.
Thanks for your reply! I used the search chord box on the Create Page to find the C7 chord. However, when I attempted to drag the C7 chord onto the Main Track, Scaler 3 would only insert that chord into the sequence or split the existing chord in half… it wouldn’t replace the existing chord. I saw chord replacement demonstrated in one of the training videos (Scaler 3 - Getting Started Part 1), so I’m not sure why it didn’t work in this situation.
I use HookPad frequently and that program allows you to replace a selected chord in one action, a simpler workflow. Please consider adding this feature in a future release.
Thanks again for your feedback. I understand the replace chord action. The replace chord tool behavior occurs when the target chord is 2 measures in length. Scaler 3 will either (a) insert the replacement chord before the target chord or (b) divide the target chord in half
Hi @FWSchreck, just to chime in here – there’s a known issue where chords that are not exactly 1 bar in length can’t be replaced directly on the main track, unless the replacement is dragged from the main track itself.
This will be fixed in a future update. In the meantime, a temporary workaround is to first drag the chord to an empty space on the main track, then replace or swap from there.
Hi Steven, thanks for the clarification. I’ll use your workaround.
I’d like to report another issue… one involving playback. I’ve created a new song in 3/4 time, added chords, created a melody track and detached/deleted the notes, then entered 4 measures of notes manually. During playback the notes in the Melody track don’t play properly, they are stretched out into 6 measures. I’ve included a screen shot for your review… it shows 4 measures in the MIDI editor, but displays 6 measures in the arrangement area.
