Ok… this can be insanely frustrating, and I know I’m not alone in this.
I updated to 3.07.
Simple progression-- Am7 - G - Fmaj7 - Fmaj9
Dragging in the G chord to the C area is a high voicing… it’s not voice-led. I try to enable Voice Grouping but I can’t figure out how to get these chords to stay close to each other, using Inversions.
Further, I can’t understand why you have to right-click to Edit Chord, and then it brings you into the Circle of Fifths view… so, you choose your chord, but the one you want to Edit doesn’t get edited. It just sits there, in the C area. So when you want the different chord type, you have to drag it to the C area, then delete the one you didn’t want. Why doesn’t it update the new chord in real-time?
Can’t understand how these issues are rarely addressed on this forum. I have read basically every post in the last 6 weeks.
edit: I figured it out-- changing the inversion from the Edit Chord page DOES change the selected chord in real-time… but, if you want to change the chord type, you still have to drag to C area, then delete the chord you didn’t want… ugh.
In the Circle of Fifths view you can edit the velocity of every single note on the virtual keyboard if you select “velocity” and the notes of the selected chord in the C section if you selected “notes”. The editing of notes is easy you just click on the keys with you mouse. Velocity is more sophisticated as you change by the location you click on. Highest value on the lower edge of the key lowest value toward the upper edge of the key. BTW. it is absolutely the same as in Scaler 2.X.
If you prefer to let Scaler 3 do the voice leading you go to the arranger page select all chords you want to be voice led. After the selection you get a new option in the lower section “Auto Voice Leading”. I suggest you click it.
The manual leaves out the edit functionality of the virtual keyboard it only says that you can “display” notes and velocity values. I think Scalermusic should add some more content to avoid misunderstandings.
I do a video series on all the functions of Scaler 3 in German. I linked the relevant portion of the video for you. But you might want to watch it with subtitles.
