Scaler 3 Official Announcement and Teaser

PLEASE: I BEG, PRAY, PLEA, RUEGO: MAKE SCALER 3 Available to MacOS 10.13.6 is the last system to iMacs mid 2011 and these are the Rolls Royce from Mac. The top needed to acoustic sampled instruments (piano, strings. winds, orchestras).

After the 2011 iMacs Apple created units with less possibilities. Or increased capabilities in artificial intelligence or synthesizer instruments of mixed vocation have no relevance for those of us who like to work acoustics and orchestras.

There is also the impediment for many of us to grow when the economy has gone underground especially for music creators. And it is already difficult to impossible to buy new equipment.

Please don’t lose in us confident and convinced buyers. It doesn’t make sense. Neither for you commercially, nor for us as customers and users.

Thank you

Angel Cabrera

Actually - while I also say that the Scaler Dev team deserves all the praise they should get, I do not support purchasing something again just to be at the developers place directly.

There needs to be a solution where the old users are treated equal compared to having first invested via a third party license distribution platform, IMHO and all that. Pretty much all devs do that (as in: if there is an issue with a license, contact their support) - why is that not possible in this case?!

.
Other than that… my Plugin Boutique account also mentions ā€œScaler 2 Upgrade from Scaler 1 + Free Upgrade to Scaler 3ā€. However, considering that I’ve got this upgrade within the first couple of months Scaler 2 came out (which was 2020), I don’t think I’ll get auto-upgraded to Scaler 3. The listed licenses in the PIB account link to the store page - and if things change in name, that’s reflected there.

.
My other questions remain though.

Although speaking of… I just got a newsletter from ScalerMusic (via brevosend/SendInBlue)… so you folks are handling this manually now, @davide ? Is it because I’m now a user on the forum? I’m so confused.

Here’s to hoping …

Whether or not an interface is bad, lies within the eye of the beholder. I do not consider it to be bad, and I’ve seen my fair share of cumbersome / bloated UIs and features in the audio realm.

What I do not want in v3, is a ā€œyou have to install ABCā€ type of deal, like sounds I will never ever use. Or a mandatory license manager that checks in on the validity of my license. I want a sleek, fast loading, low CPU/ASIO load usable tool.

If I want something like EZKeys meets InstaComposer - I will use those instead.

.

Right now, you can purchase Scaler 2 at both known platforms, and then get Scaler 3 for free once it’s being released.

You just can’t ā€œcrossgradeā€ from PIB (PluginBoutique) to ScalerMusic and the other way around. At least for the time being (as long time user). So yes, the ā€œtwo different sales platformsā€ topic is something that needs to be addressed.

have to second the multiple platforms issue, if i had the option at the time i would have purchased directly from scalermusic.com. i really don’t like having to leave any of my licenses tied up in PiB.

I’m not sure where to post this so I apologize if this should be moved.

Question 1:
I bought Scaler 2 and Scaler EQ through Plugin Boutique. I’m trying to create an account here but don’t see a way to do it.

Question 2: Is there a way to transfer by account info (serial #, purchase history) from PiB to here?

Hi folks,

Great to see everyone’s enthusiasm and excitement for Scaler 3. There is a lot of activity here so it’s difficult to respond to everyone, however there is an FAQ on the Scaler Music page addressing many questions people have regarding Scaler 3 upgrades, as well as the distinction between Plugin Boutique accounts/purchases and Scaler Music accounts.

We’re happy to address any other concerns here if your question is not answered on the FAQ.

Okay so… to answer my own question (which is also a recurring one from users):

Question: Can I upgrade from the PIB version to the ScalerMusic/ScalerDev version?

Answer: see Scaler 3 FAQ, last point (was only recently added!) - after the release of Scaler 3, PIB users that upgraded there can register at ScalerMusic and are ā€œmoved overā€. The support will also change from PIB to ScalerMusic. This is long overdue!

.
.
This leaves open my other questions from above.

Most notably:

1 - How do I sign up to a newsletter? Or am I already signed up? Considering I just got a mail via Brevo/SendInBlue with a referal to be * (at) scalermusic.com – and there is no way to sign up to a newsletter otherwise! (like… there is legit none!)

2 - Will I be able to install Scaler 3 without internal sounds? (I want to use it as barebones as possible)

3 - Will Scaler 3 need a license manager and/or something that constantly runs in background and does irregular ā€œlegal licenseā€ checks? (see Beatport Access debacle). This will make or break if I will upgrade or not.

4 - Can we only use a VSTi/AUi variant, or will Scaler 3 go a similar route like the competition (e.g. Divisimate) with a standalone/plugin hybrid and custom MIDI drivers running in the background?

Bonus:
5 - What are the minimal OS specs for Scaler 3? And will you drop VST2?

Thank you for link. Somehow I didn’t see that FAQ page.

I’m really looking forward to the release of Scaler 3.

Hi @StudioCompyfox

The website has been through a few changes recently and there is now a mailing list signup form at the bottom of the main page:

The full details of Scaler 3 are yet to be released, however system requirements and plugin formats are listed at the bottom of the Scaler Music product page:

There will be more feature reveals and details announced regularly over the coming weeks so stay tuned to the forum and the YouTube page!

Thanks all for the wonderful response and support. Needless to say we are working very hard to deliver something that feels right. I am reading all posts but the outreach has been overwhelming. Just want to add that I have always tried to value people that support us, as has Plugin Boutique. We we set our pricing first and foremost to be reasonable to new and old users alike. Please keep the feedback coming so we can try even better.

Absolutely! There everyday but day 3. What a series. Congrats to India and Australia it was best ever.

First and foremost - thank you for your time. We’re slowly getting somewhere.

.

Curious how updates seem to happen right at the time the questions really become a hot topic. I checked the page multiple times since the announcement of Scaler 3 - the sign-up was not(!) there until you made me aware of this.

Needless to say - thank you, I can finally stay up-to-date directly through you, and without jumping hoops (e.g. forum). Hopefully…

.

So at first glance… the OS specs didn’t change (macOS 10.14+, Windows 8+). Interesting to know.

But this doesn’t answer my question still on a possibility of a needed license manager or not. This is an important detail (to me), not a ā€œfeatureā€ that can / will be revealed over the coming weeks. Apologies that I am insistent on that particular topic.

For the rest (e.g. installing without internal sounds, or pure VSTi/AUi usage), I guess I’ll just have to wait and see until the plugin is out. I do hope for full customization and ā€œminimal installationā€ options to keep things tidy.

.
A feature request though…

One thing that helped me with learning / understanding harmony theory, and how chords interact with each other instead of wildly clicking on a UI and hope for happy accidents… is a Chord Progression Flow Chart (e.g. this one ). Could something like this be implemented into Scaler 3, to always have on hand in the… is it the new Exploration Mode, maybe?

I’d also love to see an interactive Circle of Fifth like this one or this one – again, for those that want to lean ā€œmoreā€ while using Scaler. But this would be bonus.

.
Once more - thank you.

Calm down mate. Between his post and your reply, it was 3:30am till 8:30am where Davide is.

I hope you don’t expect him to stay up 24/7 to answer forum posts!

You’re one of many voices here, and I appreciate your efforts to amplify perspectives for the public. I believe the MPE implementation is a game-changer for a large part of the community.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been looking at the system requirements for Scaler, and I’ve noticed they seem to mix actual requirements with the software’s features, which I find a bit confusing. For example, they list macOS 10.14 or higher as a requirement, but also mention native compatibility with Apple Silicon and plugin formats (VST, AU, AAX), which sound more like features than requirements.

My specific question is: if I have a Mac with an Intel processor and a macOS version higher than 10.14, will the software run without issues, or does the native Apple Silicon compatibility imply any limitations for Intel processors?

Cheers!

To my experience with a Mac(intosh), this should have zero influence. This only means that if you’re on an Apple Silicon (M1 and higher), that you won’t need/will not use Rosetta 2 as wrapper.

On Windows based machines, that is a different topic (ARM is on the rise, at least for portable devices and laptops). However, the VST3 SDK does already cover the topic ARM. So should there be a transition towards ARM even on Desktop devices, then VST3 will be covered.

As an entirely personal views, I have found Bluecat to be unsatisfactory, actin as it seems to do as a vst host. I found much better for me in using Cantabile (which has a free option).

You can see my approach on Ableton Live issues | Completely unofficial Scaler information site and linked pages. Cantabile Solo is a (cheap) paid version, but worth it for the excellent MIDI management features … see MIDI management | Completely unofficial Scaler information site

Scaler 3 looks great, I can’t wait to give it a try once released! I think many people here are confused about how product upgrades work. Just because you bought Scaler 2 it doesn’t grant you free access to a completely new product. The upgrade would likely be at a discounted price rather than the price you would pay if you were brand new to Scaler altogether.

@ALoha Respectfully, I don’t think anybody here is ā€œconfused about how product upgrades workā€. The clue is in the name.

Am purely commenting, I don’t have a particular axe to grind. However, while I don’t think there’s a single person here who would dispute that Scaler 3 will be an improved product with some refinements, some new features, some exciting tweaks, I do feel that the goalposts have been subtly shifted beneath our feet.

I’m quite late to Scaler anyway, since I bought it about 18 months ago, and there was already a long established Scaler community. But, the ENTIRE conversation has been around ā€œthe update to Scalerā€. Update.

That it’s sufficiently evolved to feel like a new product may well be true (we’ve yet to see). And again, absolutely nobody here expects developers to work for free. This said, I feel under no obligation whatsoever to fund someone’s ā€œpassion projectā€. Okay, that would be harsh to describe a genuinely useful and innovative tool like Scaler in such terms, but no I DO NOT expect to be charged a very high amount at all to ā€œupgradeā€ a plugin to … a newer version of that plugin. I’m not being sold a ā€œnewā€ instrument.

I’m sure Scaler 3 will be very good. I’m sure that it’s creation has surprised many of its creators in a not-so-good way. All this said, we the end users are perfectly entitled to talk about cost - about what we’ve paid thus far, what our expectations were or are. And none of that should be seen as unreasonable. If you’re a content creator or composer/musician who uses Scaler in ā€œa paid environmentā€ most of the cost issues are irrelevant. For the rest of us - we have to juggle the cost of software upgrades along with everything else in the world that seems only ever increase in price (phone plans, energy bills, food etc).

Davide has always really looked after his existing users. In my experience better than any other software company.

Scaler really is not expensive to start with.
For what you get it is as cheap as chips. Other companies charge far more for much less.

Almost certainly upgrading will not be expensive.

You do not have to upgrade.
