This is a great upgrade!

I guess I only have one question - well, two.

1 - can those that bought v1.x and v2.x from Plugin Boutique upgrade directly at ScalerMusic? (since this was the only way back then)

2 - if the answer is “yes”, what will be the upgrade fee? (because you can currently only purchase Scaler 2 and then get Scaler 3 some time March)

More info for long-time users would be appreciated. Thank you.

Congrats on the announcement @davide and team!

I am looking forward to March 2025!

As a suggestion, maybe add a link to joining the mailing list to where the website mentions ways to stay connected.

Hey @StudioCompyfox Welcome to the forum and pertinent Q’s that will be asked over and over I am sure!

Scaler 2 > Scaler 3 Upgrade Pricing will be announced and available in March 2025. I think the pricing will be very reasonable. Users who purchased Scaler 2 at Plugin Boutique will upgrade there and those that purchased at Scaler Music will upgrade at Scaler Music.

Scaler 3 Launch pricing will also be announced at launch but it will be more than the current Buy Scaler 2 get Scaler 3 deal!

Just for understanding purposes… why is there a difference between the “Plugin Boutique” version and going with ScalerMusic directly?

You are the developers, no? Can’t this be unified / simplified? Like… having a user account at your place and all that?

I bring this up, because I never got any news about updates via Plugin Boutique. Neither did I find any news / changelog on the product page. In fact, the product page is only that extensive since like v2.7. I only found out about updates via Twitter (rekkerd). And finding stuff via Discourse (e.g. the change-log) is… has not been fun so far. I would really like to get an update newsletter for once – and so far, I haven’t found a newsletter sign-up option either.

I already have a license of Scaler 1 and 2. I don’t want to purchase the software again via your place just to be “more included” as user.

Other than that, I really hope the upgrade won’t be more than 40 EUR/USD, VAT included. But I guess I’ll have to wait until March 2025.

Congratulations Davide and the Scaler team on the announcement and imminent release of Scaler 3. It looks like it will be epic.

Just a couple of questions re versions and licensing…

Will there be a version that can run on iPhone?

Will there still be separate Desktop and Mobile licences, each with there own upgrade models - or will there be some combination model as seen from some other developers lately?

Cheers from the Sunny Coast :sunny: :beach_umbrella: :sunglasses:

Thanks! Seems, the update will be 6 weeks from now. The video shows that the performance menu is now with the virtual keyboard which makes it much easier for beginners to understand how things are related. :+1:
Also no more complicated syncs anymore. Scaler 3 seems to have multiple tracks with visible midi notes. :notes::exploding_head:
I love the big Circle of Fifths! A head scratcher for now: that button “V9 colors”. :man_shrugging:
This is really exciting, and I can’t wait to lay my fingers on it.:sunglasses:

Thanks for the feedback and I get it. We do have a newsletter, you will be able to sign up for it and we do have an active latest version thread here. Also Scaler 2 on PIB and Scaler Music are the same version an we do work exclusively and closely together although we can’t dictate how their site works.
Making all kinds of improvement including conveying updates to our users better.

You’ll be able to upgrade on S3 release for less than that.

At this stage Desktop and iOS seperate releases seperate products but as always (I think) accessibly priced. iPhone will also come but that needs time dedicated to it.

There’s so much to it we are really excited to show and tell. Thanks for the support.

Great news Davide and team, I’m really looking forward to this as Scaler is at the heart of every track I attempt to create. I do this purely for my own enjoyment and if anybody else likes it that’s a bonus. Now we have to be patient and let the team and beta testers do their work so that we can all enjoy the outcome.

This is great! Just two question:

  1. will there be an upgrade option also for iOS users?
  2. are you planning to do a beta testing of the app with users? if yes, consider me interested

Thanks!

I just published a more or less speculative video about Scaler 3 in my German channel. In it I talk about an open question. If Scaler 3.0 handles different tracks like it seems in Davide’s video, then Midi channel routing in your DAW becomes a new necessity. We had this with multi-out already in Scaler 2.X and Ableton live couldn’t handle it.

There are different possibilities how Scaler 3 might handle it:
(1) It is not Scaler’s problem that Ableton Live and some other DAWs have not a full midi implementation. But Bluecat has a solution :man_shrugging:
(2) Scaler outputs external midi (virtual midi cables) that other DAWs can take as an input like your Hardware Midi controller keyboard. (kind of like Riffer does)
(3) Scaler is also a VST host, and you can load the instruments you want to work with for the different tracks.
(4) Scaler uses something like the Loop.Engine with a proprietary listener-plugin to recreate a similar situation like we had when we used several instances of Scaler in Ableton Live.

I guess we will get to know more in the coming weeks. :sunglasses:

Luckily enough I switched to Bitwig in 2024 and no regrets about the move

Nevertheless, I know that many users love Ableton, and they will have to find some workaround

That said, another option is Cantabile, a very cheap VST host

If I make YT videos I use AL, Cubase and Reaper. If I make music for myself i like the easy going with AL and when I need it for midi routing etc. I switch to Cubase. So I won’t have a problem no matter how Scaler 3 turns out. But it is always a pain in the butt to tell AL users that they can’t use programs like instachord, instacomposer and of course, multi-out with Scaler.

Unify from Plugin Guru is also quite a nice VST host by the way. Not cheap, but still affordable and very capable.

I forgot to say that only the Producer and Studio versions of Bitwig have the multi-out option, while the Essential version doesn’t have it

I tried the demo of bluecat in the past, and the various virtual cable tools, but I found them cumbersome to set

The not yet visible screen in the previews looks like it is showing a Bass track in the third lane.
I can´t wait to run the first tests.

I just went through all the info on the website. Obviously the scalerteam is keeping a few surprises close to their vest to unveil later. But regarding my earlier posts about multiple tracks and midi channel output: compatibility list includes Ableton Live. If there was a restriction, there certainly would be an asterisk. :notes:

Also very cool: Scaler 3 can run standalone.

Next thing I realized there is no hint for randomization. Which is fine for me. But I know a bunch of people who want to have randomization with almost everything. :man_facepalming:

Great news! Could you please offer a means to get an upgrade price by purchasing from ScalerMusic? Providing a serial# to qualify for the discount maybe?

All good and fine… I already have the changelog bookmarked (the thread actually doesn’t show up anymore once you’re signed into the Discourse forum engine - had to really jump some hoops to always find that).

But where does one sign up to the newsletter?!
I legit can’t find anything about that on your page.

.

That is not the point to me. The point is, and I’ve read this myself via their customer support and also here on the Discourse forum, PIB says “got questions, reach out to ScalerDevs”, and here on Discourse with severe technical issues, “if you bought via PIB, please contact PIB’s support”.

However, you folks are the developers, are you not?

Since we’re talking v3, and finally a more unified page, this needs to be addressed as well IMO. So yes, I am for improvements on communication/conveying updates to your userbase. This is long overdue and would stop the hoop-jumping.

.
And speaking of upgrades:

This adds to my question above… can we PIB users just… move over to ScalerMusic? Again, to unify things? Heck, I’ll gladly spend 5 USD more for this move.

.
.
And I got three more technical questions that are really important to me.

1 - Considering that there will now be a standalone version as well, can we still just use a VSTi variant?

2 - Will we be able to not install bundled sounds? I am really only using Scaler to trigger other VSTi, I don’t need an internal sound engine and would like to have an engine that is “bloat-free”.

3 - The most important question to me – will we need a license manager for Scaler 3? Especially one that runs in the background that checks randomly every 2-4 days if my license is still “legit”? (see the Beatport Access drama – which stopped me from cross-grading tools from formerly Soundspot – I really dislike being punished for nothing as legit user).

.
Thank you for your time.
