Breaking Change:
Saving/loading state files is no longer supported in the Scaler 3.2 standalone app. If you have saved states you wish to keep, please save them as Presets before updating, as only Presets can be loaded in 3.2.
I’m excited to try the new version but the installer has been stuck for more than 20 minutes on “Scanning for new 64-bit plugins…”
Is this a new addition to the installer? I don’t want to use any plugins inside Scaler. Can we have a cancel button or, better still, an option in the installer to not even try.
As it is I can’t even get 3.2 installed. I’ve not had a problem with installing any of the previous versions.
Hi @boingy Nothing has changed. Just press the ‘Skip’ button and not the ‘Scan’ button. You may need to update your thread party plugins if they are having troubles scanning.
Have you restarted your machine and have you done a clean install? You shouldn’t have any problems and if you continue to do so please provide further info on your setup and crash reports please,
I’m having problems with the 3.2 install for Windows also. I ran the installer and the standalone version was updated sucessfully to 3.2 but when I open it my DAW (Reaper) it still is version 3.1. Anyone else seeing this issue?
Hi @davide , The problem is that there is no skip button. I do remember one from previously but couldn’t remember whether it was in the installer or in the S3 start-up. But today I just have this:
Hi Boingy, have you tried hovering over the scaler icon on the taskbar. If so then two small windows should pop up, the one you’ve screenshot above and another black window. If you click on the black window that pops up, it should return the focus to that window bringing it to the front on your screen.
When installing anything, it’s best to keep the focus on the installation window and not click anything else, such as checking emails or internet.
When installing on Windows 11, I got several stop messages that said Scaler could not overwrite certain files. I had to reboot to make that go away. I had not used Scaler since a previous reboot. Once I rebooted, it installed without issue.
Like usually mentioned, have you tried re-booting your computer after the install? That might help. For reference, I have Studio One on a Windows 11 PC and Scaler is showing as 3.2.0 on mine inserted on an S1 track.
Phenomenal update. I came back for the midi out from standalone and found that quite a bit has improved since I last explored S3. Can’t put my finger on it but everything is snappier and a lot easier to navigate.
Initially, I felt S3 was a lot more complicated than S2 but in reality it isn’t. It’s exponentially deeper and more capable but still dog easy. I’m loving the 7 lanes on Create Page for exploring motion, Midi editor in Arranger mode is a dream come true.
MPC Live 3 is now my DAW of choice so having Scaler 3 with midi out from Standalone is so powerful. Also, being able to host all of my software instruments and fx is ridiculous. I can create really great audio loops fast to feed MpC or send audio file from MpC to s3 to detect what key/scale or chord is in a loop, chop or sample.
@davide, Solved. It was very odd. It was, indeed, another dialog behind the main one but it didn’t appear on the task bar or in the Alt-Tab list. It was directly behind the main dialog and poking out just a few pixels each side but because my wallpaper is quite dark I could barely see it. It felt like one of those hidden object games. Anyhow, now installed and looking great.
My verdict on the update:
Gold medal goes to MIDI out. Excellent.
Sliver goes to Scenes. I’ve only had a quick play but it looks like you’ve hit the sweet spot when it comes to functionality vs complexity. I’ll probably be spending more time in Standalone S3 before moving to the DAW
Bronze comes out of the blue. Divisi. Previously I’ve tried to use Divisimate but it quickly gets messy and complicated. The S3 Divisi is much simpler but hugely useful to me. It will save me splitting notes to separate tracks in Studio One.
The wooden spoon goes to the Studio One blocklist problem. Still there, still intermittent.
It’s great to hear that kind of feedback as that is how we feel very strongly about Scaler 3. Not sure anyone loved Scaler 2 more than me! But as much as I like to reminisce, I just get lost when I load S2. S3 can do 95% (and increasing) of what S2 does but it does so much more and in many more ways. I think we’ve gotten to the maturity that is a pass mark for Scaler 3 and its onward and upward from here.
I can assure you we have put everything we can into resolving this - seems to have done for the vast majority of our Cubase Users and resolved for some of our Studio One users too. It’s getting us, and it’s getting a few other developers too. It’ll happen, hopefully very soon.
I’ve currently got Scaler 3 Audio on the blocklist and nothing else so I’ve turned off scanning in Studio One for now as a workaround. So it will be fine until I get a new VST…
Still crashes Reaper - even faster now. I know many reaper users have had success, but not me. I have 300 plugins that work fine. But scaler continues to shut down the session. My drivers are fine. I’m at a complete loss. Considering getting some free daw just to use with scaler. Any recommendations? I’m serious. G
Thus far 3.2 immediately crashes Live 12.2.7 every time I try load the plugin. The installer ran fine including the plugin scan, but no luck running it in Ableton yet. I’m still on Win 10 (latest update).
Love Scaler… certainly wasn’t expecting any issues with the update, but I’m sure they’ll be resolved quickly.
I have Studio One (Version 7.2.3 now). I have never had an issue with it winding up on the blocklist, that’s strange. Possibly, there could be a registry entry somewhere that’s producing this issue. Have you tried reaching out to Presonus support to see if they might possibly have an idea why it keeps showing up there?
