ProTools and Scaler3 issues for me

I can’t have scaler 3 in any PT sessions. The scanning issues remain and sessions won’t open. Sometimes they do open so the code still has real problems that need addressing. All PT users are having the same issue on mac.

Have renamed your post as it is misleading. We have many PT users and we use PT ourselves without issue. If you are having problems we would love you to detail them for us please so we can try and assist you and if there is some kind of issue locate it. Please provide more info so we can look into it. Thank you.

I have mac mini m2pro running latest os and latest pro tools version. I followed instructions to perform a clean install as best I could but the paths shown don’t match the default mac file tree. The pinwheel of scanning death is a random and frequent problem, It still fails to load sessions randomly if scaler3 is in there. Constantly wants to put the plug-in in the unused folder. Or not. Is it possible to post clearer and correct clean install instructions somewhere more noticeable for customers to avoid confusion? There are no crash files generated I can find when this happens. Only a prompt to send the crash report to avid. I know 6 others having exactly the same issue in the audio program i’m enrolled in. Hope this helps…

Scaler 3 clean install instructions are listed at the bottom of the known issues forum page:

Mac - Clean Install:

  • Delete the standalone state file in this folder: /Users/[NAME]/Library/Application Support/Scaler 3.settings
  • Delete the personalised files in this folder: /Users/[NAME]/Library/Scaler Music/Scaler 3
  • Delete the shared user files in this folder: /Users/Shared/Scaler Music/Scaler 3
  • Reinstall.

Tip: The Library folder is hidden by default. To access it, open Finder, click Go in the menu bar, and hold the Option (⌥) key to reveal Library.

Which of the locations above does not match your Mac’s file structure?

We did very recently receive word from another Mac OS / Pro Tools user who starting having issues with Scaler 3 after installing the Pro Tools Speech to Text Engine. This was prompting Pro Tools to crash and want to move Scaler 3 to the unused plugins folder. We are currently looking into this report, but if you do have the Pro Tools Speech to Text Engine installed, you may like try removing it. Scaler 3 was reportedly working without issue in Pro Tools after removing this app.

Hi, just an update to say we have encountered one SWOD when opening a Scaler 3 session in Pro Tools 2025.6 which it confirms is on account of the Scaler 3 plugin. However the session did open without issue on next attempt. Still very strange and not something we’re seeing in other DAWs, so something we will look into.

Are you saying that there are six people in your group having the same issue specifically with Scaler 3 and Pro Tools?

When Pro Tools asks to send a crash report to Avid, you can choose ‘save as’ to save the report locally. If you are able to upload one of these here that would be very helpful.

Yes we’re all randomly having the same problem. We’re also all on silicon Mac mini or studios running the latest versions of everything. I’ll send that crash report later today. Thanks David e!

Frst report is me trying to instantiate it on a track and it failed and froze the session. Second is a freeze of loading a session. It freezes on the track that has scaler on it and the pinwheel of death appears, preventing the session loading. Like I said, it is random but frequent. Sometimes everything loads and works fine. Hope these help!

Thanks, that does sound odd is something we are investigating. Note that your attachments do not seem to be uploading correctly. It can be difficult to upload files other than images here. You can try compressing to a zip file first. Otherwise you may need to host the file on a cloud server elsewhere and add a link here. You can DM me these links if you’d prefer.
