Bass Follow doesn't work with DAW sync off?

Hello and thanks for the beautiful 3.1 update.
I’m trying to use Bass Follow this is the situation:
Second instance of Scaler 3, Live Sync is activated and this is a Follower instance.
A chord progression is binded in the C section, Keys Lock activated in Scale Notes Mapped, notes received via Midi.

Bass Follow doesn’t output any sound or midi notes when I disable DAW sync.
Am I missing something?

Hi @standalone. I assume when you say you have disabled DAW sync, you are not playing Scaler’s sequencer at all. In your image it appears Scaler’s sequencer is stopped.

The Bass Follow track, and any other tracks for the matter will only play when Scaler’s sequencer is playing. So manually triggering main track chords using bound notes has no effect on any other tracks. Only the triggered main track chord will play.

Hello @Tristan and thanks for your answer.
How can I start Scaler’s sequencer when DAW sync is off?

Hi @standalone. Pressing play at the top of Scaler’s interface will play Scaler’s sequence with DAW sync on or off. When DAW sync is on, this play button is triggered automatically when playing your DAW.

Thanks @Tristan. So if I understand correctly Bass Follow or any other motion track in the arrange page will only work when DAW sync is on or the sequencer is started manually.

I tend to disable DAW sync so I can trigger chords via midi and have different progressions or pauses in the same song. Is there any way to manage multiple progressions and empty bars in the arrange page? Do you have any suggestion on how to reach the same result AND have the bass follow track working?

thank you so much

Hi @standalone,
since you are using scaler with ableton and have multiple instances with Live Sync then you dont have to use extra tracks in the Arrange page. You just have a second instance that will trigger your bass track and at that instance you may select whatever motion you want by checking the performance radio button at the bottom left (just above the virtual keyboard).
That way you don’t need any synchronization etc…
Actually its almost the same workflow (for Ableton at least) as with Scaler 2.
Here is an image on how you may setup your template in Ableton.

I have attached an Ableton project with all the stuff ready to make it more clear.
I hope it helps.

Hello @omonymos thank you very much for your effort.

Your solution is great but unfortunately -despite the many many bass performances available - there isn’t one for having just a long sustained root note for creating a bass drone.
I’ve been asking that for years but at the moment is not available so I was hoping I could use Bass Follow to get around this limitation and finally be able to do it.

Ah i see… i have the same issue! For that i am using this M4L device in my bass tracks that i want to follow just a single note and not all the chords.

Oh I get it @standalone @Tristan Any reason we can’t have a Bass Motion articulation available globally (on the Browse Page)? That would do it. I understand we decided not to have Chord Follow there as it would be superfluous but in this instance it’s what OP wants and would work quite well.

I will add this to 3.1.2 and if it’s to hard we can include in 3.2

EDIT @standalone You can also just mute the Main Chord track in the follower? This will give you a Bass Follow only (but I understand you want to use Trigger notes so my above solution would be better for you). See attached gif:

Thank You very much @davide!

@davide
Neither Mute nor Solo work to disable the MIDI on the Main Track.
I’d upload a GIF but I don’t have permissions.

@chaosofzen (cc @davide )
Mute doesn’t work for MIDI (only audio), but you can set MIDI channel to none, and this works if you want to a Bass Follow only MIDI track.
