So, I used 3 rather resource intensive VST instruments in a session. Not sure, but I believe Kontakt 7 was the culprit, which did not load the saved hosted sound set. I could not find any way to open Scaler without reverting to the same last used session and the endless hang which never opened Scaler. I first tried just uninstalling the program and leaving the registry and file structure intact, but on reinstall same hang. Ultimately I had to thoroughly ‘nuke’ 3.2 with Revo Uninstaller.
I’m now up and running, but I’d like some other way to resolve this without having to do a total uninstall.
And, if I had to, I’d like to locate the folder where the session files are stored so I could move and save them before the reinstall.
Hi @DFT. Presumably you are talking about the standalone version of Scaler 3, not the plugin. If you delete the standalone state file, Scaler 3 standalone will open to a blank session. You can find the Mac and PC standalone state file location in the clean install instructions located at the bottom of the Known Issues forum page.
Thank you, Tristan … but I’m still a little confused.
PC - Clean Install:
Delete the standalone state file in this folder: C:\Users[NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Scaler 3\ Scaler 3.settings
Delete the personalised files in this folder: C:\ProgramData\Scaler Music\Scaler 3
Delete the shared user files in this folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Scaler Music\Scaler 3
Reinstall.
Yes, I’m talking about the standalone app. OK, actually the first thing I did before my uninstall journey was to delete Scaler 3.settings in app data, as it looked like a likely suspect.
However, what then happened was that 3.2 when opened didn’t populate the Browser page Main Tracks I’d selected to the Arrange page? Are you stating that by deleting this file 3.2 is supposed to present a fresh session when re-opened?
I appreciate the directions for a clean install, but that’s not really what I want. I just want to be able to open to a fresh session in the event that a loaded instrument cause 3.2 to hang.
Also, I still don’t understand the path for saved sessions. I expected a Scaler folder in my Documents, but I didn’t find such a folder. I checked within all the 3 folders named above and didn’t see anything suggesting a folder for saved sessions.
Hi @DFT. Apologies perhaps I’m not entirely following you either. To be clear, there should be no need for a clean install, I was simply directing you to the location of the standalone state file, which on Windows is:
After deleting this file, Scaler 3 standalone should open next time you run it to a blank session. This is what I understood you were attempting to do.
You say however that you have already done this:
I’m not sure I understand you here. Are you saying you no not want Scaler standalone to open to a completely blank session, but want to retain some prior settings e.g. main track chords? If so, I’m not sure this is possible. Ordinarily Scaler 3 standalone opens to the last used state. If you first delete the standalone state file however, Scaler 3 standalone opens to a blank state.
Are you referring to Scaler 3 preset files? On Windows these are located in: C:\ProgramData\Scaler Music\Scaler 3\Presets
