Scaler 3.2 Standalone locking up on initial tutorial screen after NI & Arturia updates

After I refreshed a Windows 11 machine with recent Arturia V and Native Instruments updates to instruments, Kontakt and Komplete, and added a M32 keyboard, Scaler 3.2 Standalone now locks up on the tutorial page every time I try to launch it. It loads the app, page 1 of the tutorial overlay loads for a couple seconds, then the overlay disappears for a few seconds, then it reappears and the app is unresponsive. Per Windows Task manager, it consumes about 30% on an i5-4440 3.1 GHz CPU and grabs about 1.2 G of working memory from 16G on board. The memory and cpu numbers fluctuate and never lock down solid.
I’ve rebooted multiple times, the new keyboard works fine with other software. I’ve also disconnected the keyboard and reboot but no luck.

I’m about reinstall but wanted to see if there were any similar reports.
Thanks

Update: The issue has morphed into the standalone version retaining state from other stable instances of the VST, but it still ends up in a locked up state. I used the VST in Studio One 6, Ableton Live, Komplete Control and Zen Beats with no problem. However, somewhere in those DAWs, I used a very specific setup with a Jazz 1 Soft Movement @ .5 and a particular chord set. Now when I try to load the Standalone, the Tutorial does not show up, but the settings above load and Standalone then locks up. I did not save anything to Scaler when using the VST.

Hi @TMacD, thanks for the detailed report.

Sounds like the standalone state file has become corrupted. Recent Arturia/NI updates may have contributed, though other factors could also be involved.

If you haven’t reinstalled yet, could you please share your current standalone state file? It will help us diagnose the problem. You can send it as a support ticket or DM me here on the forum.

On Windows, the file is located here: C:\Users[NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Scaler 3\ Scaler 3.settings

After sending it, you can try the following to reset standalone:

  1. Close Scaler 3 completely
  2. Delete the state file above
  3. Reboot your PC
  4. Launch Scaler 3 Standalone - it will create a fresh state file

Let us know how you go. Cheers.

Hey Steven;

I’m back up and running, but unfortunately I nuked the old state file when I did a full reinstall. (I did look for it - just not very effectively)

Trouble shooting steps:

  1. Reinstall just Standalone - no change
  2. Uninstall and full reinstall - back to normal

I’m making a number of changes to several systems so I’ll try to repo this and get a state file.

One related thing did notice was some inconsistency in how the Standalone loads. It seems to load the previous session (Scales, Chords, Tracts, Instruments) and does not always follow all of the settings such as Set Instrument to No Sound. However, it does seem to load correctly in the VST.

Thanks for such a great tool!
