Hello. I am using Scaler 3 in Studio One. When I am using it with a third party instrument, the instrument appears in it’s own view box but, as soon as I click anything on Scaler 3 or as soon as I click any of the Studio One transport controls, it disappears and I have to click to get it back and it will disappear again as soon as I click anything else. Scaler 3 has a pin function available but the instrument view box does not. Is there any way I can keep the instrument view showing? Many thanks. I would appreciate any help with this matter.
Hi @AndyOg and welcome to the community.
I don’t know how this works in Studio One, but in Reaper I noticed that third party plugins do not completely disapper but rather they are hidden behind the DAW interface. So, my workaround is to move Reaper left/ right and generally I find my instrument. Sorry, my the plugins was not visible in the recording after I moved it to the right of the DAW, but it is there.

This is more obvious with standalone, but the behavior is the same.
Many thanks for your kind reply. Yes. I can see now that the instrument disappears behind the daw. I wish it didn’t do that but at least I have the option of moving the daw if I need to see the instrument view as soon as I use the transport controls or adjust something in Scaler 3. Again, many thanks.
The need for workarounds is frustrating here. I never load plugins in Scaler because of this issue and I use one monitor or a laptop frequently. No other subhosts have this limitation as Scaler does (Kontakt, Maschine, etc. just to name a few all have a pin function or leave plugins loaded open when touching their interface). Also in many DAWs, mouse and keybaord are not passed to the plugin from Scaler maknig plugin selection or settings super annoying.
My workaround is to use Scaler as a MIDI track only and constantly route instance(s) to instrument tracks so my DAW can properly host the VSTs since Scaler is abysmal in this regard. Or, I have even used Scaler from a tablet wirelessly to the DAW as a MIDI controller.
Scaler also forgets previous next and menu selections after first opening its interface and closing it in many areas. Until Scaler gets way more mature and developers work on bugs and basics instead of new features, it will never ever gain trust saved in my DAW projects, and will be basically a live chord experimentation and external controller gadget only. I record chords into the DAW to save, since Scaler may just dump any and all parts of its settings at any time during or between sessions (tested on multiple DAWs). Scaler just isn’t stable or robust enough for saving in real work. I don’t enjoy being negative, but we are not half a year post release with many basics not working.
I’m having trouble fully understanding your specific requests or suggestions.
Firstly welcome to the community @AndyOg
In my experience, both in Logic and Ableton, I can easily switch between Scaler and the loaded plugin, just as expected, much like Maschine or any other host. Could you clarify what you would like to see different in this regard?
Also, I’m curious about your experience with Scaler 2. Were you able to achieve the same functionality with Scaler 2 that you’re expecting now in Scaler 3?
Scaler 3.1.1 has addressed many of the initial issues, and while we are continuously working on improvements, calling it “not stable or robust enough for real work” seems a bit extreme at this stage. Let’s keep the discussion focused on specific issues so we can offer effective support. Let’s aim to keep the conversation constructive so we can help you, and others.
I think it’s about being able to keep the VST instrument screen open and visible whilst using Scaler 3. Really useful if you have a large screen or more than one screen.
I’ve not seen any of the other stuff that Storm is saying. There are plenty of things in Scaler 3 that need tweaking or revisiting but it’s perfectly usable as it is today.
So this is the behaviour I see in most DAWs I use and standalone MAC. So in which DAW’s is it disappearing / closing? And @Miki Are you seeing the plugin closing on Windows? @Tristan Can you tell me what you are seeing PC Standalone / Studio One Mac/Windows

Many thanks for your welcome. In Studio One on a PC the entire Serum (or any other instrument view) would have disappeared and you have to click the icon next to the instrument name to get it back. Or you can move the entire Studio One almost off screen and find it because it disappears behind the DAW, as @Miki kindly demonstrated. I think this is the main problem that @storm303 is experiencing. I am told that new users can only mention two people in their posts, so the other person who replied summed it up very nicely.
Using some third party instruments with Scaler 3 can be difficult because of this. For example, Scaler 3 with an Ample Sound guitar. In these cases I am using Scaler 3 the same way that I used Scaler 2. With the instrument independent on another track and Scaler’s midi routed to it.
It would be great if there was a pin function in the instrument view box.
Please don’t think I am complaining. There is a work around and Scaler 3 (like Scaler 2) is an amazing piece of software.
Hi folks. Yes this does appear to be a Windows specific issue. When running Scaler 3 standalone on Windows plugin window behaviour is correct, but when running as a plugin, clicking away from the instrument plugin window moves the plugin window behind the DAW which is not ideal. This does not occur at all on Mac OS when running Scaler 3 standalone or as a plugin.
No, it is never closed on Windows.
If standalone is not very big,. I can see the 3rd party plugin partially hidden, but not closed. If i click on the 3rd panty , it becomes completely visible. But if i click on S3, the plugin is hidden again, if not moved. This is less obvious with Reaper, probably with any DAW, because of their size. My Reaper is quite large and when 3rd party plugin in S3 opens, it is just moved behind and is just not visible, but certainly not closed. I have to find it behind the DAW,move outside of the boundaries of Reaper and S3, and it will stay there. I have a huge screen so I can do it. The variables are: the size of the DAW and S3, and the position of the 3rd party i.e. how much of it is visible after moving. See my videos above, the first with Reaper, the second with standalone. But the users don’t know this because this is not obvious.
OK all good and understood - thanks for all the contributions and feedback. Tristan has logged it so we will see if we can improve that Windows behaviour!
