since I’ve installed 3.1.2 the Scaler 3 VST doesn’t show up in the FX browser anymore. If I load a project that already had the VST added somewhere, it will load just fine.
The Scaler 3 Audio VST on the other hand shows up in the browser as usual. The entry in the vstplugins64.ini looks wrong for the missing one:
It looks like the plugin ID is there so it can be loaded if referenced by ID but the name and whatever the second value is are missing so other fucntions don’t work.
I’ve tried to remove both entries and restarted Reaper. It scanned the VSTs again and added both lines again in this state.
If it is not there (I suppose you checked this way), you can go to Prefrences…VST and Re-scan (1) VSTs with some options. You can Clear cache and re-scan VST paths for all plugins (2) or, Plugins that failed to scan (3).
The option Plugins that failed to scan option (2) could be a good starting point because it is faster and if something failed during the installation of Scaler 3, it could be repaired. If this does not help, re-scan all plugins (3).
NOTE: As I found Scaler3.vst3 in the following folder, be sure that C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\ is in Reaper VST plugins paths and that Scaler3.vst3
If necessary, you can even add this complete path to Reaper VST plugin paths.
After the re-scan, it will be necessary to restart Reaper before seeing the plugins in the list.
The last possibility is to uninstall Scaler 3 completely, reboot the PC and reinstall Scaler3. You mentioned that you tried reinstall and everything was as before reboot, so I wonder whether you did the uninstall before installing Scaler. I always do it.
It is possible to hide a plugin by putting the # character before its name (for example, I do this to hide VST2 plugins if I do not have control over its installation; I show only VST3 versions), but I did not find how to show it once the plugin is hidden, for example if I have hid it by mistake.
rescan → plugins that failed to scan. Scaler 3 was in the list. I clicked it a few times but it just attempted to scan and then added it to the list again. Still didn’t show up in the browser.
I then decided to reinstall in the way you mentioned. Before starting Reaper after the reinstall I deleted all Scaler 3 entries in vstplugins64.ini. Both were scanned on startup, but still only Scaler 3 Audio was in fhe fx browser.
I checked ‘plugins that failed to scan” and it was there again. I decided to give it another go and indeed this time it was able to scan correctly.
So right now it’s looking good, so thanks for the tips. However I really hope this was a one time incident and I don’t have to do this on every update like we’re in the 90s again.
