When using Scaler 3 with the Loop function in Logic Pro, Scaler adds unwanted “ghost notes” during playback, which progressively ruins the MIDI track. The issue becomes most noticeable and destructive on the third and fourth loops.
Steps to Reproduce
Set up Scaler 3 to generate chords and/or bass lines for multiple tracks.
Assign each track in Scaler 3 to a unique MIDI channel (e.g., Channel 1, Channel 2, etc.).
In Logic Pro, assign a MIDI track to one of the MIDI channels from Scaler.
Activate the Loop function for the MIDI region in Logic.
Start playback.
Expected Behavior
The loop should play back correctly and identically on every pass. The MIDI data from Scaler should remain consistent without any additional notes being added.
Actual Behavior
The first two loops play back as expected. On the third loop, Scaler begins to add extra, unintended “ghost notes.” By the fourth loop, the MIDI track is so cluttered with these new notes that the entire part is ruined. The issue seems to be a cumulative effect that worsens with each subsequent loop.
Additional Notes
I have searched for similar issues online but have not found a definitive answer or widespread reports of this specific behavior. It’s unclear if this is a known bug. This issue significantly hinders the workflow for writing and arranging with Scaler 3, as it makes it impossible to use the looping function for even simple melodic or harmonic ideas.
Thanks for taking the time to post. I’m guessing you’re setup is not quite right as I am unable to reproduce your issue and I use Scaler 3, Logic and MIDI out all the time.
Please ensure you have the correct settings including Internal MIDI In in Logic set to the OUTPUT of your Scaler.
Thank you for your quick response. You’re right, I left out a crucial detail. The way I described it works, but I don’t know how to insert images here, which is why I’ve described my settings.
I have Scaler 3 on the main track with MIDI Channel 1 and a second track with MIDI Channel 2. In Logic, the first track has a MIDI input set to the internal Scaler 3 instrument output on MIDI In Channel 1. The second track has a MIDI input set to the internal Scaler 3 instrument output on MIDI In Channel 2.
With monitoring enabled on both tracks in Logic, and a loop activated and playing, everything works fine.
The problem starts when I activate a Performance in Scaler 3, such as Arpeggio. The notes start to stack, which didn’t happen in the previous version of Scaler.
That is what I am doing in my test, no matter what I try It works as expected. Are you using an instrument that may be susceptible to hung notes? Some of the Arturia stuff (which I love BTW) tend to get stuck notes quite often.
If you can host a video somewhere and post a link here we can take a look.
