I wasn’t going to buy Scaler 3 because I had posted a question for @davide a question that was never answered or even acknowledged. However, I went ahead and bought it, and I must say, being in the software development space, it seems this was a rushed job.
The issues I’m having and I want to know if anyone else is also experiencing them:
Sound generation never stops and I constantly have to hit MIDI panic to shut it up. It’s become annoying and possibly unusable.
Changing to the different pages or mostly now just randomly, UI disappears. And then it tries to slowly render back as you scroll your mouse across it. However, it NEVER comes back completely so I had to quit my project. I haven’t reopened my DAW so I don’t know if Scaler 3 will return to normal. If not, I can’t use it.
Some of the performances from Scaler seem to be missing from Scaler 3? For example, what happened to the chordal performances? I really like them.
Being a software development agile coach and Scrum Master, I’ve seen this happen many times where a product is shipped before it was ready. And Scaler 3 seems to be that right now. It seems it just didn’t go through the QA process because I find it difficult that these issues could be missed by anyone. Unless of course, I’m the only having them.
I was looking forward to the Scaler 3 release based on the pre-release videos, but man, if the software doesn’t even work and function as expected then how do I use it?
Anybody else seeing these issues? I’ve seen these in other software but mostly in software that’s given away for free where they don’t really focus on the simple stuff. Hope these issues are fixed soon so that I can use it.
I’m on Mac OS and these issues were while using Studio One 7 Pro.
EDIT: I noticed @musictechie that you start by mentioning I never responded to an @me > Apologies but as much as I would love to, I can’t reply to everyone. I note your generous offer to help the Scaler team but that wasn’t required.
I have changed the title of this post which was hyperbole at best. Serious UI/UX issues is misleading. Most of the time it’s been understanding the new workflow or watching tutorials which would help
Are you using a third party instrument with a long release? Playing chords which abut each other and getting stuck notes with such instruments Is totally normal, hence the MIDI Panic.
That is not normal and could be down to a number of factors. Have you restarted/re-installed a fresh instance
They are there, in exactly the same place they were last time.
It went through months of vigorous testing with over 400 devoted beta testers, artist network and our internal testing team. Hundreds of beta’s, every minute of every day. We are immensely proud and we are open to criticism, but constructive criticism, not sweeping statements because of user misunderstanding - you are a scrum master, you should know better!
I was gonna say I’ve been using it a lot in Studio One 6.6.4, and have not experienced anything like #1 and #2, and haven’t seen them come up a lot on this forum.
I’m actually at a loss then, the UI/UX issues are real. Maybe they’ll just disappear. The system I’m running is an Intel i9 with 64GB of RAM, so I wouldn’t think it’s any performance issue.
BTW…I have to say, I’ve NEVER experienced any technical issues with Scaler 2, which is why I found this surprising. I have been very happy with Scaler 2. I guess maybe I’ll try and export my project to another and see what happens. I was using the VST3 version…maybe I should try the AU version? Don’t know.
Thanks for replying @davide. I do apologize for probably being way to harsh in my criticism…the UX/UI issues probably got me way too frustrated where I overlooked things. And I must say that I have never ever encountered any technical issue with Scaler 2, so that probably says a lot about the quality of your products.
However, the UX/UI issues are real and I can’t figure it out. I will try another DAW as I’ve mentioned, and maybe also try other versions like AU or VST2. But again, the fact that I’ve never had these issues with Scaler 2 or any other plugin means that it can’t be my system. I’ll answer your questions here:
For the sound issue, no, all the instruments I’m using are within Scaler 3, and in fact I’m only using the Felt Piano. I’m not sending any MIDI to any other instrument. And the sound is not even the piano sound, it’s a very annoying sound.
I haven’t uninstalled and reinstalled it, but I guess I can try that if the same thing occurs in another DAW or with the VST2 and AU version.
Again, I do sincerely apologize for my harsh words and I probably should have written my comments with a cooler head for sure…now that I’ve re-read them. I will continue troubleshooting this and hopefully get to the bottom of it. Thanks!
