Reaper crashes when I delete "Empty" item from User track

Hello - I wanted to report a bug involving Reaper that has consistently been happening. If I have a User track in Scaler 3, Reaper crashes if I delete the “Empty” item on the track. However, if I capture MIDI and drag it onto the User track next to the “Empty” item, and THEN delete the “Empty” item, Reaper does not crash. It’s not a major issue, but still a bit annoying (especially if I haven’t saved my Reaper project in awhile).

Hi @mldpolyglot,
Can you provide more information about the crash i.e. OS, Reaper version and extract from Event Viewer log?

Also, did you try to create Reaper project with only Scaler 3 (to exclude that any other plugins interfere)? Can you record a short video of this issue?

Miki

I am attaching a screenshot of the event log.

I tried using a screen recorder to make a video of the crash happening, but I couldn’t get it to work properly. I am using Reaper version 7.11 on Windows 11. I am using other plugins in my project besides Scaler 3, but I don’t think they have anything to do with why Reaper is crashing.

As I mentioned previously, I am able to avoid Reaper crashing by leaving the “Empty” MIDI item on the track, and then dragging the recorded MIDI onto the track next to the empty item. Once the recorded MIDI is on the track, I can delete the empty item without Reaper crashing.

Just to be sure that I understand correctly. This is my screenshot:

So, you have User track with an “empty” item. You click on the “Empty” area and press Delete or “X”? Then, Reaper and Scaler crash.
Is this correct? Do you have other tracks in Arranger (I supposed not, because you did not mention anything else)?
BTW, I also use WIndows 11, but Reaper 7.42.

I tried several times, but I cannot reproduce your issue. Does this happen in standalone, too? My standalone works fine when I repeat the same steps.
