Scaler 2.9.1 CRASHING in Reaper 6, Windows 11

Hi folks,

I’m using Reaper 6 and Scaler 2 seems to crash every so often. Causing Reaper itself to shut down completely.

I’m not sure exactly what is causing this.

Would Reaper 7 prevent this?

I’m away from my PC don’t have all details right now sorry.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Cheers

Hi @AudioBoyd

Welcome to the forum.

I do not have these issues with Reaper 7, nor did I have any with Reaper 6 but I upgraded to Reaper 7 before Scaler 2.9.1 was released…

Thanks for the response, I’m wondering if maybe the new Scaler update isn’t communicating well with Reaper 6.

I’ll try a few solutions I’ve seen on older posts like moving the VST to its own folder and see if that helps. I don’t particularly want to upgrade to Reaper 7 and pay £60 for the sake of one plugin :joy:

Just diving into Scaler properly, great software for a guitarist like myself who is crap at Piano. Cheers!

Hi, just bought Scaler (2.9.1) and having same issues with reaper v7.22 (Windows 10). Crashes reproducibly. After importing a midi file, then going to “bind midi” in settings and select e.g. Section A, Reaper crashes entirely. Any chance to get my money back? Seems a bit too unstable for me for that price. Thanx

Hi @dr_infantil

Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried installing the latest version of Reaper (7.2.8)? I have this installed on a Windows 10 v 22H2 pc and have not experienced this issue with this version.

Also, do you have any other plugins open in Reaper when it crashes? It may be worth trying this with only Scaler loaded to help confirm that the issue is one with Scaler.

Please let us know if you resolve this.

Good luck and Happy New Year

I have Win 11, v. 24H2, Reaper 7.2.8 and Scaler 2.9.1. No problems whatsoever.
Can you create a new project, add only one track with Scaler only, then import midi by using drag (1) and drop (2) from Reaper Media Explorer ( Ctrl + Alt + X) to Scaler. Bind the section A by clicking the square to the right of the chords (3). This is the best choice if you imported a .mid file with chords, the solo notes will not work that good.

Anyway, you don’t need to use Settings…Bind midi. Checking the square (box) is the easiest way to bind any section.

I have upgraded my reaper and also, I avoid using the “bind midi” section in the preferences now. Seems to work  Thanks alot for your replies and a happy new year for you, too!
