Newbie here: Scaler 3.1.2 - I cannot find Detect - is it still a feature?

Me:

Where do I find Detect in Scaler 3.1.2

ChatGPT:

“How to find Detect in Scaler 3.1.2

  1. Open Scaler and look at the bottom left corner of the interface.

  2. You’ll see a small panel with a button called Detect (sometimes labelled MIDI Detect depending on your view).

    • It sits just above the virtual keyboard at the bottom.

    • When you click it, the Detect Panel opens on the left side of the plugin.”

But it is not there.

You are right - it is not there. ChatGPT is hallucinating (nothing new for AI).

It is rather at the top - the round red button which opens a small panel.

Detect Button

For more details, please open the page 25 in Scaler 3 Manual which can be found behind the Scaler logo (top left of the screen).

Click on it, select Help (1) …Open Manual (2).

This is another one of those S3 implementations that made me have to use the manual. I think it’s entirely unintuitive to have the detect mode hidden behind a record button.

Scaler 2 had an unambiguous Detect button and an unambiguous Scales button. You didn’t need a manual to find them or use them. Scaler 3 should have a Detect button on section A. Detection is an important feature so hiding it away behind the transport controls is daft. I keep coming back to that thing where Davide said that the UI was designed by an outside consultancy and wondering why that consultancy didn’t do a better job.

Scaler 3 is excellent but the UI could be so much better.

I’ve said elsewhere that I agree the Detect Button UX is a fail. We are addressing that. In fact we have two solutions. Stay tuned!

Can you present these solutions to users community in order to see what they think about them and which one they prefer? Maybe a poll?

It would be useful to have feedback before the solution is implemented and avoid negative comments and start from the beginning.

Sounds good @Miki We will have a closed Beta which yourself and the other testers will get to use and feedback on! Hope that’s soon.

I am also a newbie. I love the app but I absolutely despise the UI. Grey font on black background. Scroll bars too thin and appear only when hover over it. No ‘Light’ mode, only dark mode.As mentioned above, Capture MIDI/Detect MIDI hidden behind the red dot which universally means a ‘record’ button. The ‘Options’ button on the upper left corner is practically invisible and for my 68-year old eyes, absolutely a torture. Ditto Settings and Close buttons on the upper right corner. The whole experience becomes a tough chore and not enjoyable at all. Please guys, fix these for the sake of this old man’s eyes! Other than that, love it. Thank you for this wonderful tool.
