Missing Motion Select / Toggle in 3.1 [Fixed in 3.1.1]

First time posting, i just upgraded to Scaler 3.1 and a key feature seems to be missing when it comes to applying motions. Once you’ve created a motion the search/change/toggle button to go through these isn’t on every motion type. I see it for ARPs but mostly they don’t have it. Bass doesn’t have it. Melody it’s missing as well. This is what i’m used to seeing at the top of all Motions from the previous version.

Hi @msteenburg and welcome to the forum. Great spot and you are correct. We are going to look into this now. To be clear working as expected for all Articulations but not for Expressions although Rhythms and Performances work OK.
Workaround for now:
Split the Clip and subsequent clips will display selector (you can then just replace the first clip).

Please advise. As I remember previous versions you could change phrases on side bar. in my clip there is Amabile now, but I found no way to change this on the side bar. In case of Arps and passages there is this button for changing the types, but I cannot see this on phrases. Thanks Istvan

Hi @karsai, welcome to the forum. Thanks for your post – I moved it here.

The selector is available for Articulations, as well as Rhythms and Performances, but unfortunately a bug was introduced in 3.1, making it unavailable for most Expressions. We’ve added the bug to the list of known issues, and hope to address it in an August update.

Workaround for now:
Split the clip – subsequent clips will display the selector, which you can then extend as needed.

Cheers.

On the Arrange page in Scaler 3.1, once you assign any of these—

  • Phrases
  • Bass
  • Melody
  • Sequences

—you’re stuck with it. Want to try something else? There’s no option to change it in the MIDI pane—you have to delete the entire track, add a new one, pick your next phrase, then repeat if you don’t like it. It turns simple tweaking into a tedious cycle of delete → recreate → select.

Hi @raybeastproductions, thanks for the feedback. Each Motion type has its own set of modifiers in the sidebar which is why the others are currently greyed out once a selection is made. That said, we’d like to support switching Motion types after selection in a future update. Cheers.

Clarification: I’m not talking about different motion types—I mean swapping to a different MIDI of the same motion (Phrase 1, 2, 3, etc.). You can’t switch without deleting the track and adding a new one. Same goes for Bass, Melody, Sequences.

If I load Phrase 1 and hate it, I can’t just switch to Phrase 2 MIDI—they’re in the same “motion” category but there’s no option to cycle to the next midi. For arps I can cycle through options within the modifier pane, but for Phrases (and Bass, Melody, Sequences) I have to delete the track, add a new one, then select the next MIDI. Doing that repeatedly is a real pain.

It’s a bug they inadvertently introduced with V3.1.
It will be fixed but for now you use the scissors tool to cut a clip in half, delete the first half and expand the second half to whatever length you want. That clip will then be editable as in previous versions.

Or just wait for the next release which sounds like it will be soon.

Thanks for clarifying, @raybeastproductions. Looking back at your original post, I should’ve picked up on the distinction you were making - apologies. I’ve moved the discussion here to keep the feature request thread clean.

As boingy mentioned, there’s a bug in 3.1 where the sidebar Motions selector isn’t showing up for most Expressions. That’ll be fixed in the 3.1.1 update, which we’re aiming to release ASAP.

@boingy appreciate your support while we’re asleep here in Australia, cheers!

The workaround is working for me. But looking forward to to the permanent fix. Thanks!

Hi all, this issue has been resolved in Scaler 3.1.1, which is available now.

The update includes a range of improvements and critical fixes, and we strongly recommend it for all Scaler 3 users. You can download the 3.1.1 installers from either Plugin Boutique (under My Account) or Scaler Music (under My Products).

For full details, check out the latest version thread for the changelog. Cheers.
