Scaler 3 Standalone has corrupted some of my project files. It is so bad that I now keep constant backups of Scaler 3 files in case the next time I make an edit it destroys them. Loosing a lot of work and hours here. Running the latest 3.0.1.5.
Is it suspected that a future update will be able to open the files that it now cannot? Is there any way I could share one of the files with you to see if you can open them?
It is possible that the thing in common between all the corrupted projects has been that they were done with the Dune 3 VST loaded in. Not sure and will have to test more.
HI @Defender yes you’re welcome to post files here, or link to a cloud storage link and we can take a look. We are looking into plugin compatibility reports e.g. Serum 2 and have not heard too many people using Dune 3, but we can investigate this if you suspect this is causing issues.
Sorry for the delayed reply. For some reason the uploader here won’t let me select any Scaler files, so will need to figure out where to put it, unless I can email to support.
My OS is Mac OS Sequoia 15.4 (24E248). Normally I don’t run the latest version but it came with the new Mac.
OK thanks @Defender. What is the extension supposed to be so I can change it back? Some have had more luck uploading .zip files if you want to compress your project.
Also a Dune 3 user, but have not used in Scaler enough to be sure it was Dune 3 that caused some of my numerous crashes. Plenty of attempts with many plugins crashed after enough time went by. I think there are plenty of Dune 3 users out there, not sure how many use Scaler.
Just noting, Dune 3 and other problem plugins work flawlessly in other hosts and subhosts. VST3 particularly is very rock solid in most modern hosts and subhosts I use- they just almost never crash or glitch. Not trying to beat you guys up, just an observation that the plugin hosting feature probably needs a few more fixes to be predictably stable and convenient. I have backed off using plugins within Scaler for now as the risk of losing work is real and there are also other pains with doing so such as not being able to browse presets or move through controls of a loaded plugin with keyboard or mousewheel (only clicks are reliable and a real pain in the wrist) or keep a plugin interface open when touching Scaler interface. The total experience right now makes working with any plugin inside Scaler tedious and stressful so it is for me relegated to a sketchpad and clunky workflow where I will load the same instrument out of Scaler and just drag chords out of it to the MIDI track of the DAW. I’m hopeful that stability but also experience for the VST host feature will improve with time, otherwise the VST hosting and Arrange pages will be of limited utility for me. I realize it is a complicated endeavor to add plugin hosting to a plugin and I am patient and appreciate all your efforts at Scaler!
OK I can confirm I am unable to open this preset file without Scaler 3 crashing. I don’t have Dune 3 installed but is still hard to tell what may be causing the issue.
We are investigating reports of this nature so we will send this project file to the dev team and see what we can figure out. Apologies for the inconvenience here but thanks for your feedback.
Hi @Defender, apologies for the lack of progress here. Your preset file was submitted to the dev team for investigation however it appears it could not be recovered. I’ll speak with them again now that version 3.2 has been released to see if there are any other possibilities.
Reports of these corrupt presets have been very rare however it is obviously frustrating when it does occur. I’ll get back to you soon hopefully with some more information. Thank you for your patience here.
