Capturing Midi from Logic Track back into Scaler 3 and DAW Sync

Hi- For the life of me I can’t figure out the workflow of capturing pre-existing midi in a track in Logic back into Scaler 3 to then use again in Scaler. After attempting this, the crosshair icon next to the record button is flashing, so Scaler has recorded the midi, but I can not drag that captured midi clip into any section of Scaler, only back into a track in Logic which is not what I want… I want to be able to work with it in Scaler.

Also… DAW sync is checked but Scaler does not chase my Logic transport… very confusing!

Would love some help!

Thanks!

I am having both of these issues as well.

You press the grayed out red button to read the midi and play. I forget if it the capture or detect. When I do it, I usually select the wrong one, kind of like always putting in a usb cable upside down first. Personally, I don’t bother. If the chords are in the track, you can load Scaler up as a MIDI FX and just let the chords play from the track.

The only downside is that you can’t really use the arrange page as it only reads the chords into one instance. Not a big deal for me. I just use another track for any different patterns with its own instance of scaler.

Ok, so I’m guessing these issues will get addressed in an update? I’m not really sure that I’m being clear enough with the issues I’m having… And it would be helpful to be able to upload a screen capture here or to support..

To try to clarify… scaler is recording the midi, but the only thing I can do with it is drag it out to a track again… the captured midi itself, does not show up anywhere in scaler, even with a new instance as a Midi FX.

DAW sync is also not working, and yes, DAW sync is checked when right clicking on the play button

Hi @Progressor welcome to the forum. There are currently some MIDI capture issues particularly regarding tempo which will be resolved in the upcoming Scaler 3.1.0.6 update, due April 30th. These are listed on the forum page below:

But to clarify some of your issues, it sounds like you are using MIDI capture to record activity in Scaler 3, but instead of dragging the captured MIDI to your DAW, you want to drag to Scaler?

This should be possible by dragging to a user track. So on the arrange page, click + to add a new track, then under articulations select user. Note that MIDI clips on user tracks are static and detached from the main track chords. So they will simply play the notes as they are and not adapt to chord changes.

There are some minor issues regarding DAW sync which will also be addressed soon. These are noted on the page linked above, however it should be working properly in Logic. Note that with DAW sync engaged, pressing play in Scaler 3 will only play Scaler 3’s main track and not Logic. For Logic to play along you will need to press Logic’s play button.
