I just finished watching the video “Songwriting using Scaler 3.1 and Ableton Live”. While it was very helpful, it didn’t go much beyond creating a four bar loop. Are there any videos demonstrating the workflow for using Scaler to develop traditional song forms with verses, choruses, and bridges that have different instruments and different chords in the various sections? So far I haven’t figured out an efficient way to construct and display multiple sections that can be 8, 16, or however many bars long.
Maybe Scaler isn’t meant to be used in such a linear fashion, but at some point in writing and recording a song all these sections need to be put together. I just don’t know how to do it with Scaler.
The bad news: There is no currently support in S3 for different song sections. You just have to cut and paste stuff
The good news: Davide has said they are planning to introduce “scenes”, which are intended to fulfil this very need. I don’t think there have been any details of how scenes will work or any indication of timescales just yet.
Thanks for the reply, boingy. It will be interesting to see how scenes get implemented.
I managed to come up with a clumsy workflow in Scaler 2, though it was a struggle to make it do what I wanted. Now there are new features I’d like to take advantage of in Scaler 3, and I was hoping the workflow could be streamlined.
My workflow question should probably go in a different section of this forum. Maybe other users who understand Scaler 3 better than I do could explain how they go about creating different sections for their songs.
