Completely new to Scaler so I’m trying out the demo before the time limit expires. First thing I’ve noticed is that when using it as a plugin in my DAW (Cakewalk by Bandlab) the tempo is always synced to the host even if I set ‘Sync to DAW’ off in prefs. Is it not possible to manually change the tempo within the DAW? The same issue applies to the time signature.
Hi @Simon1 and welcome to the forum. We felt its important to remain locked to DAW tempo and time signature as many users use Scaler 3 outside of DAW sync and BIND chords and record trigger notes in the DAW. As Scaler 3 hosts instruments the majority use case is that any VST/Libraries hosted within Scaler need to be in sync with the DAW tempo hence we lock to DAW. Hope that helps.
Thanks @davide that kind of makes sense although I write music to picture and there are times when the project tempo as a whole is more abstract and doesn’t always need to sync to the DAW tempo but I’m sure I can work around this.
I’m just not sure why there is an option then in Scaler 3 settings to turn DAW sync on/off if it doesn’t actually do anything?
Even the Scaler user manual says this setting controls the following:
“Sync To DAW
Toggles synchronization with your DAW’s tempo and transport controls
(plugin operation only).”
But it doesn’t toggle, even if you set it to off it still syncs to DAW tempo so it’s kind of a redundant setting isn’t it?
It’s not redundant. It decouples the transport controls so you can play the DAW and Scaler separately.
I agree that it should act on tempo too.
