Scaler 3 Standalone

  • Adding any VST3 effect disables track output. Older VSTs (dll) seem to work

    • There is not a way to delete unwanted effects, you can only replace them or add more.
    • NOTE: VST3 Instruments appear to be working, only the effects are problematic.
  • Right-clicking and delete track and then undo the delete will not restore mixer settings and VSTs

  • Random application crashes when using Ctrl-Z or Ctrl-Shit-Z multiple times. Not sure the exact pattern yet, I think it may be a null pointer type exception when rewinding or fast forwarding past the begging or end of the history.

  • Cannot draw midi notes off-grid

    • Grid snap cannot be turned on and off
    • Default grid snap division/resolution for notes can not be edited
    • Motions/Performances will produce midi patterns that cannot be edited/replicated because of this.
    • You can change the assigned note of off-grid midi by selecting it and using the up and down arrows on the keyboard. This does not allow you to change the timing of the note (horizontal position)
  • Had to find the program in Program Files and create my own desktop shortcut

Nice to haves:

  • Motion previews played in browser adapted to the currently playing chords
  • Drag and drop arrangement midi exports
  • In arrange the playback head should stop after the last chord/midi content unless recording
  • Ability to remove selected Motion in Sketch Progressions

Hi @jmcaudio, thanks for your detailed report. Apologies for the long gap in response - your post didn’t receive the follow-up it should have.

We’ve since addressed many of the issues you’ve raised.

This behaviour is still present in Scaler 3.2 and has been added to our list of improvements.

Aside from that, if you’ve updated to Scaler 3.2 and are still experiencing any of the other issues you mentioned, please let us know - we’d be happy to take another look.

This is currently by design - the MIDI editor uses a fixed grid, so grid snap can’t be turned off. Timing feel is intended to be handled via the humanisation controls rather than free note placement. We get the workflow you’re describing though, and more flexible manual timing is something we’re open to looking at if there’s enough interest.

Some of the ‘Nice to haves’ you noted have also been implemented or logged as feature requests.

Thanks again for helping us improve things.

I appreciate you taking the time to follow up. Scaler seems much more stable now and I’m enjoying the updates, especially the Scenes feature. Keep up the good work!
