Stunning feature updates, thoughtfully implemented. Looking forward to using Scaler 3.
Since Ableton Live and Bitwig donāt have chord tracks, midi import that latches to chord tracks is the feature I most want and would be enough for me to upgrade.
But Iād assume thereās no way to integrate MPE into Scaler 3? Iād love to be able to use it to quickly change chord progressions in Live 12 for prerecorded MPE midi without losing the MPE data.
Iāve own scaler scene Ver. 1.
Is there anyway I can get
Ver.3 so that i can start working
with it as my new work flow.
I would like to start working with
it right away. I using studio one 7+
I would like to pick up from a previous post of mine that is yet to be fully answered.
.
Now that we know when Scaler 3 will arrive, and what features it will have (not going to lie, Iām not a fan of the āhalf sub-DAWā feature with loading audio plugins into the engine), we still donāt know if a License Manager (the Beatport Access License Manager debacle) is needed.
This is a make-or-break scenario for me!
.
Additional to that - something that actually really irks me with the pre-sales:
The promo videos and promo pages all only mention an upgrade price of 29 USD / EUR / GBP. So far only here on the forum and on PB has there be a mention that the MSRP of the upgrade to v3 is actually 39 USD / EUR / GBP.
PB furthermore lists Scaler 3 with a āList Priceā of 59 USD / EUR / GBP. Truth be told, I actually fully expected a MSRP increase for Scaler 3 to go up-to 79 USD / EUR / GBP. However, looking at these prices with a magnifying glass, a 40 EUR (MSRP) upgrade is a rough 33,80% difference (with the 29 USD / EUR / GBP sale it is 50%). And while I remember the commentary on post #67 regarding the āeye gouging in the software industryā (as in: the endless sales to generate a user base, which can be really tiresome indeed), one has to admit, this feels a bit off if basically 95% of the companies out there ask for equal/less than 50% in terms of upgrade fees to the next major version. Including big DAW companies. Sales not counting.
Which brings me to the other thing that keeps gnawing on me - the lack of information when the Introduction Pricing will end. Why the secrecy? Why the āpre-orderā FOMO push?
.
I can overlook that my (edge case?) technical issues/questions have been ignored so far.
But I would really like to get these pre-sale questions sorted out before I spend any dime prior to 25th March. Other media realms made me very careful regarding the topic āpre-orderā (which this is!).
Scaler 3 doesnāt require Beatport Access and Scaler 3 wonāt be available under Beatport studio. Naturally that may change in the future.
$29 USD is the upgrade price for existing Scaler 2 users now and at launch (MSRP $39)
$79 USD is the purchase price for Scaler 3 at launch (MSRP $99)
We canāt control what other companies do display or how they display but they are our prices.
When do launch prices end, that is up to our marketing teams.
Finally we canāt answer all questions and posts. Weāre focussed on our launch and doing our best. Apologies there and thanks for your patience.
Just to add to what Davide explained about the upgrade price on Plugin Boutique.
I just visited the PB site and as an image is worth a thousand words:
It is important to select the pre-order option. The one for Scaler 3 (pre-order) - upgrade from Scaler 2 is $29.00
THis is the link to this option. (Scaler 3 (PRE-ORDER) Upgrade from Scaler 2 | Plugin Boutique)
Actually, Miki ā this picture does not speak a thousand words. At least not for this side of the globe (Central European).
.
.
And the price for Scaler 3ā¦
.
On the other hand - thank you, @davide ā although PB was/still is the main distributor for Scaler (even lists āby Plugin Boutiqueā). Now you mention even higher prices than previously known. I hope you can understand why this does leave a couple of borderline bad aftertastes.
However, looking at the actual MSRP for Scaler 3ā¦ now the upgrade price is way, way more attractive. Still, the marketing team should be more open about all of this (actual pricing, introduction sale deadlines, etc), IMHO.
.
Honestlyā¦ absolutely not a fan of that that statement.
Not while Beatport Access is a manager that insists on running in the background while your rig must be āalways onlineā. This is one of the worst copy protections out there punishing legit users, and the main reason why Iām not supporting things like formerly Gobbler or currently things like the Roland Cloud. I have enough unnecessary intrusive ālicense managersā on my rig already - thank you very much!
So I really hope it will not come to this later down the line with a maintenance update !
If you donāt use Beatport Studio to start with you wonāt have that problem, whether it comes in or not. Iām assuming you used it and accepted their T&Cās when you took advantage of that deal. Sounds like youāve not enjoyed it, fair enough - please feel free to feedback to PIB.
We understand that you may not be a fan of this or that or have opinions on how Scaler Music should be marketing - thatās cool. But please do try and be mindful of our resources and other users. Also please be mindful of tone as our community members can interpret responses as aggressive and sarcastic which are considered as insults on this forum.
Iām not using Beatport Studio (Iām a Cubase user) or Beatport Access (e.g. Rent-to-Own) - I prefer to go āperpetual licenseā whenever possible. I was almost subjected to that manager due to another toolset in my plugin collection being rebooted (formerly Soundspot), and these licenses were only distributed/activated through Beatport Access.
In my 25+ years of being in this music realm, Iāve experienced a lot of copy protection schemes / license managers - from good and stress free (IMHO), to downright infuriating. And this one, I do not consider to be on the good side. Hence my harsh tone. Apologies for that.
I will give you folks the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully understand that āavailability under Beatport Studioā means āRent-to-Own Optionā (only).
I will leave it at that - my pre-sale questions have been answered for the time being. Thank you.
,
Iāve been with Scaler since v1 - I guess Iām just a bit frustrated with hunting down information about updates, corresponding change notes, confusing presentation (pricing), etc. I am in good confidence that this will also be addressed in the future (especially now with a newsletter).
I will step back now, wait for the next āPre-Releaseā video, see where the road still goes. If I got more questions, I know where to ask them.
Thank you for your time.
Ahem, I am in Italy and the price is the below
I selected German from the PB language menu and the price is the same
What country are you based on?
Is Scaler 3 out yet?
I bought the plugin from the boutique in advance. About 30ā¬ upgrade from Scaler 2 to Scaler 3. I paid via Paypal. Strange that the payment doesnāt show up anywhere. Also, I made the payment twice because of that. Hopefully I wonāt be charged twice later.
The release date is March 25th
Well, FWIW, Iāll jump in and say that while I have been a little vocal in the past re Scaler 3 pricing and etc. not only is my Plugin Boutique page (Europe) showing the stated ā¬29 pre-release upgrade price, but Iām honestly a bit clueless as to why so many here seem to want to dump on PB??
Okay so slightly off topic, insofar as PB deals in VSTs and music software well beyond Scaler, but of late Iāve scored some amazing bargains through PB, not least of which was a recent āanniversary bundleā that included the full NI Session Drummer (RRP ā¬199) and NI Massive, plus a couple other things I didnāt bother to download, and all for just ā¬54!!
I get that it can be a bit frustrating to have all manner of different software daemons running in the background, and five different authentication agents, and various other etc. butā¦ is this not simply the world we enter when wanting to make music on a computer?
I donāt āloveā this sort of duplication or get terribly excited when I need to authorise yet another instrument or plugin via iLok or other, butā¦ speaking for myself only, I have a PC with enough basic power in it to comfortably handle all the tasks I throw at it. The day I donāt? Iāll upgrade it. And no, I donāt have funds just lying around unused, Iāll need to scrimp and save. But if I want to enjoy making music then surely I just make this enough of an investment? I donāt go on holidays, but prefer to spend money on computer parts and software.
Thusā¦ if I suddenly seem to want to defend Scaler 3 and its pricing wellā¦ thatās because this is still all about CHOICE surely? Nobody is forced to purchase anything any more than theyāre forced to use this or that software or product eco system.
I havenāt actually had a chance to even look at Scaler 3 because life has kept me away from music of late (not in any negative way) and Iāll just purchase Scaler 3 not because I desperately need it but because itās a fair price for a very good product. Iāll be very happy to continue using PB too, especially if they keep rolling out the occasional ludicrous discounts and free plugins (I picked up Steinberg Backbone as a āgiftā on the back of a purchase).
