I’m not using Beatport Studio (I’m a Cubase user) or Beatport Access (e.g. Rent-to-Own) - I prefer to go “perpetual license” whenever possible. I was almost subjected to that manager due to another toolset in my plugin collection being rebooted (formerly Soundspot), and these licenses were only distributed/activated through Beatport Access.
In my 25+ years of being in this music realm, I’ve experienced a lot of copy protection schemes / license managers - from good and stress free (IMHO), to downright infuriating. And this one, I do not consider to be on the good side. Hence my harsh tone. Apologies for that.
I will give you folks the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully understand that “availability under Beatport Studio” means “Rent-to-Own Option” (only).
I will leave it at that - my pre-sale questions have been answered for the time being. Thank you.
,
I’ve been with Scaler since v1 - I guess I’m just a bit frustrated with hunting down information about updates, corresponding change notes, confusing presentation (pricing), etc. I am in good confidence that this will also be addressed in the future (especially now with a newsletter).
I will step back now, wait for the next “Pre-Release” video, see where the road still goes. If I got more questions, I know where to ask them.
I bought the plugin from the boutique in advance. About 30€ upgrade from Scaler 2 to Scaler 3. I paid via Paypal. Strange that the payment doesn’t show up anywhere. Also, I made the payment twice because of that. Hopefully I won’t be charged twice later.
Well, FWIW, I’ll jump in and say that while I have been a little vocal in the past re Scaler 3 pricing and etc. not only is my Plugin Boutique page (Europe) showing the stated €29 pre-release upgrade price, but I’m honestly a bit clueless as to why so many here seem to want to dump on PB??
Okay so slightly off topic, insofar as PB deals in VSTs and music software well beyond Scaler, but of late I’ve scored some amazing bargains through PB, not least of which was a recent “anniversary bundle” that included the full NI Session Drummer (RRP €199) and NI Massive, plus a couple other things I didn’t bother to download, and all for just €54!!
I get that it can be a bit frustrating to have all manner of different software daemons running in the background, and five different authentication agents, and various other etc. but… is this not simply the world we enter when wanting to make music on a computer?
I don’t “love” this sort of duplication or get terribly excited when I need to authorise yet another instrument or plugin via iLok or other, but… speaking for myself only, I have a PC with enough basic power in it to comfortably handle all the tasks I throw at it. The day I don’t? I’ll upgrade it. And no, I don’t have funds just lying around unused, I’ll need to scrimp and save. But if I want to enjoy making music then surely I just make this enough of an investment? I don’t go on holidays, but prefer to spend money on computer parts and software.
Thus… if I suddenly seem to want to defend Scaler 3 and its pricing well… that’s because this is still all about CHOICE surely? Nobody is forced to purchase anything any more than they’re forced to use this or that software or product eco system.
I haven’t actually had a chance to even look at Scaler 3 because life has kept me away from music of late (not in any negative way) and I’ll just purchase Scaler 3 not because I desperately need it but because it’s a fair price for a very good product. I’ll be very happy to continue using PB too, especially if they keep rolling out the occasional ludicrous discounts and free plugins (I picked up Steinberg Backbone as a “gift” on the back of a purchase).
In the pre release 4 video you show third party plugins and instruments, then expression tracks added to the main chords, can you then export the bass and expression tracks with their respective effects separately onto individual tracks, for example in Logic Pro?
Hi @lynnfield72 You can export, bounce etc etc from within Scaler 3 or within your DAW. You can export what you hear (solo / mute etc) so it’s entirely flexible in that regard.
I am preparing an introduction video for Scaler 3 in German for launch day and I realized I missed to celebrate my 100th video about and with Scaler 2. I made #103 videos already .
Oh well, what’s done is done. And my first Scaler 3 video will be #104.
If you look for an introduction in German – after the launch, of course – my YT Channel is @KaiLabs
Just letting you know that I’ve had to uninstall Scaler 3, the ‘audio unit reported a problem’ message became so frequent Logic Pro was unusable with Scaler 3 in the project.
I look forward to any updates, it looked like a fab product!
My system is;
OS Sequoia 15.3.2
Logic 11.1.2
192 RAM
M2 Ultra Mac Studio
We use Scaler 3 in that exact setup and have been doing so for time…
Go to plugin manager in logic and reset and rescan selection. Also please make sure you install and reboot
I’ve already done that, no difference, also if I create a bass track on the arrange page following the chords, it plays for a minute or so and then there’s no sound from the track?
Strange, were you a beta tester (conflicting cache file)? Have you tried launching in Standalone and do you have another DAW to try a process of elimination? Let us know so we can try and help out
Also, another thing I noticed, if I select a manufacturers plugin for the 2nd, 3rd track etc, the plugin UI opens fine for a minute or so, then clicking on the plugin in the mixer, just opens the selection window, not the actual plugin?
Its very buggy in standalone as well, it won’t play a progression and clicking on play doesn’t do anything, if I select a progression for example in genres, the window stays open and won’t close? I wasn’t a beta tester and I only use Logic.
