This way, we could switch between binding our keys to the Main Track or any other track.
It would be even cooler if you guys could develop a new type called “Key Bind Track”.
This way we could also have the chord switch keys capability per track, with the added bonus of changing Octaves, Inversions, and Transposes “per chord” on that track while still following the main track’s chord progression.
Adding a “Record Midi” functionality to this track would simply be the endgame!
But alternatively, we could simply record our midi input in the DAW’s corresponding track til a record MIDI functionality is implemented.
What I’m trying to achieve here is the ability to quickly compose multiple tracks with my own melodies that vary in Octaves, Inversions, Transposes, per chord per track, while following the main chord progression.
Prior to release we had a BIND symbol for each track, but things began to break down once we introduced editing and chopping — it became tricky to determine what should actually be triggered.
I do like your suggestion of restricting it to a Chord Follow or Bass Follow track, ideally one without gaps that rhythmically follows the Main Track.
That said, we’re already working on Scaler 3.2, and one of the features planned is the ability to record directly into the User Track. That means you could use Keys Lock or a Chord Follow track as the input source. We haven’t finalised the approach yet, but the goal is to address some of Scaler 3’s current limitations — for example, making it easier to record chord rhythms internally.
We’d love continued user input at this stage, so happy to keep the discussion going while we experiment.
If you guys figure out how to add this function for certain tracks or record function, it would be awesome.
I think that a sollution to this problem of a track with gap would be letting the bind keys keep binded to the previous Chord type eventhough when there’s a gap in the track. Or atleast mute the chord play on those sections for the binded track.
As to the planned Scaler 3.2 User Track funcionality.
I think it would be nice (perhaps realy difficult), to also add the ability to switch the views between MIDI-Input (what we play/record) and MIDI-Output (what Scaler translates it to).
This would make the editing MIDI after recording much easyier for the user since they only need to quantize/edit less MIDI data then the out put MIDI data.
And would also add the benefit that Scaler will always know how to play the correct keys even after Chopping and/or changing the Octaves, Transpose and Inversions of each individual Chord on it’s track since it wil always be fed the MIDI-inputs info. Although I think that that’s allready the basics of how Scaler works, but maybe making sure that these new “User Type Tracks” (Hey I just made up a new Track type catagorie….use it hahahah!!!) have that MIDI-Input memorie built-in would solve previous issues.
A dedicated Bass Follow track is a really good idea.
Because it can often be tricky to make funky bass lines for a track.
Especially if it’s an 808, I know that often with 808s, it’s because the sound itself is in a different key.
So adding a feature to both detect and offset bass/808 bass scale would be super awesome!!
