Just trying out the ‘Keys Lock’ function in Scaler to correct MIDI notes so they play within the correct intended scale. Works great and what I’m hearing is correct (i.e. I play a note that’s out of the intended scale and Scaler maps it to the nearest correct note in the scale) but the actual recorded MIDI data is still of the ‘wrong’ note.
I get it that Scaler acts as the middle man and routes it to the correct note during playback but what if I want to export the MIDI data for a time when I don’t have Scaler running (or even just know that the actual MIDI data I have is correct)?
Is there a way to make sure the actual recorded MIDI notes are locked within the intended scale? Even if it’s a workaround that shifts the recorded notes after recording.
Hi Simon, you are recording the trigger notes in your DAW. If you want to hear the actual notes that are being transposed use the ‘MIDI Capture’ function within Scaler 3.
In a future update we will allow realtime recording back into Scaler 3.
Thanks @davide. I don’t think I’ll be able to make this work in my situation so I think I’ll just have to manually edit ‘incorrect’ notes in my DAW but thanks for getting back to me.
Hi @davide. I want this feature, too. I believe Scaler 2 is able to send the scale-corrected notes to MIDI Out.
EDIT: Or maybe Scaler 2 does not export the scale-corrected notes either?
EDIT 2: Ah, I just remembered what I used to do. I need to feed the MIDI output of the Scaler 2 track as the MIDI input to another MIDI track. Then the scale-corrected notes get recorded by the DAW into the other MIDI track.
Correct. There are many ways employed by various DAWs to do this. Logic has simplified this process here.
Please do note that we are developing a way to capture this live as you play within Scaler 3 itself on a user track. Aiming for that to be part of a 3.2 later this year.
