Hey Everyone!
First post here I just purchased Scaler 3. WOW is all I can say! LOL. My only problem is I don’t see an option to use my midi controller in my DAW (Ableton Live 12 Lite) The standalone Scaler version has an options tab that I can use and see my midi controller (portable grand) and it seems to work just fine. But that option is not available when I use it as a plugin… ?
Hi @beauknowsdiddy, welcome to the community.
As any DAW, Ableton manages controllers itself, not Scaler.
I am not Ableton user, but I found this. Hope it helps:
To use a MIDI controller with Ableton Live, you can either leverage a Control Surface (if your controller is supported) or create custom MIDI mappings. For Control Surfaces, Ableton recognizes them automatically upon launch, and you configure them in the Preferences menu. For custom mappings, you’ll need to manually map controller elements to Ableton’s parameters.
Hey thank you Miki,
Unfortunately that doesn’t really explain how to map it. I guess I need an ableton user to help me figure it out. It’s crazy every video I’ve seen so far seem to be using their piano keyboard as a controller in whatever DAW their using. But none if them explain how to do it. Oh well at least I can still use the stand alone version until I get it figured out. Thanks again!!
I cannot find how to connect it to Ableton, but if there is a USB cable that you can plug to your computer, I believe it should work as any other MIDI controller via USB cable. No idea if this is helpful, but you can check this video: How To Set Up Your MIDI Controller In Ableton Live.
Yes that’s the one. It’s actually been my midi controller in ableton for quite some time now. I have other instruments like XLM drums and guitar they all work with my keyboard just fine.
OK, I am completely dummy for Ableton, but I saw somewherr that a plugin can be used either sd FX or as instrument in this DAW.
I searched and found this:
" In Ableton Live, plugins can be used as either effects or instruments, depending on their functionality and how they are placed in a track. Instruments generate audio from MIDI input, while effects process existing audio. Plugins can be placed on either MIDI or audio tracks, but the placement determines whether they act as an instrument or an effect."
If you used Scaler 3 as FX, you can try to change it to an instrument and vice-versa.
Maybe this could be an idea (as I mentioned, I am below zero concerning Ableton .
