Keys Lock Chord Notes Use Case - Is it Possible?

Hi - I’ve spent time watching and reading tutorials but am struggling to find guidance with respect to my use case. I bought Scaler to do the following:

  1. Determine a chord progression using Scaler
  2. Mute the sound of the chords as the progression plays through and not record the track hosting the chords
  3. Use Keys Lock Chord Notes to experiment with different melody ideas as the progression plays silently in the background
  4. Record the notes being played using Keys Lock Chord Notes, once I am ready to record the melody idea I’ve decided on

When I try to do this, I can’t even create an empty track where I can play using Keys Lock Chord Notes. I can only create a track with a “Motion”. If I record or copy over the chords to Logic, create a new track with Scaler as the software instrument, and put it into Keys Lock Chord Notes mode - the new track does not follow the chord progression in the first track.

Scaler is great but it’s not very intuitive. I posted a similar query on Reddit, and I think someone from Scaler kindly reached out to me. Per the advice, I have changed my settings accordingly but am still unable to achieve what I want to and would appreciate further support please.

Thanks

Hi @chris6003. Welcome to the forum. If you have chords on Scaler’s main track, you can mute those chords either by shift+clicking them, or using the mute tool on the Arrange page. Then you can activate the chord notes keys lock mode to play the notes of these chords using your MIDI controller as the main track plays, without the chords themselves being heard.

To record the output of Keys Lock mode, you can create a user track in Scaler 3 which records the output of the main track, including Keys Lock. Or you could record the output of the main track to a MIDI track in your DAW.

Does this explain what you are trying to accomplish?

Hi Tristan - Many thanks for taking the time to write to me. Yep - I’m good now - Thank you for your help - I hadn’t noticed the “M” tool or that I could create a blank track by selecting “User Track”.
