I am extremely new to DAWs and also to Scaler. I would like to know if there is any way for Scaler to suggest chords based on a melody, in order to build the harmony of a song.
I am a singer. I have melodies that I sang a cappella, recorded as audio. I also have these melodies in MIDI, which I recorded using my MIDI controller in Studio One.
Just to be clear, I am not a pianist and not a musician in the traditional sense — I am only a singer.
In practice, what I want is for Scaler to help me build a song around my melody.
I used to have a musical partner who played guitar, but he moved away. I would sing my songs, and he would create the harmony on the guitar.
I would like to know whether, without my partner, Scaler could somehow help me create harmonies for my songs.
This comes up often, and this was actually why Scaler was originally created.
Detect Audio or MIDI to figure out a scale.
Play through the chords to match your melody.
Create variation in your chords by using Voicings (Colours Page), Modulation Page, Suggest Mode, Chord Sets, Explore Page.
We won’t do it for you automatically because I don’t believe that works (suggest ‘a chord’ per note) as there are so many possible options. We do, however, enable the play through the chords that will work with lots of assistance. There are many various workflows, and maybe some of our users can contribute with their own?
Thank you very much for the warm welcome and, above all, for Scaler.
As I mentioned, I’m quite new to DAWs and to Scaler, but I’m already very impressed by the power of the plugin — congratulations on such a great tool.
And if any other musicians, producers, or singer-songwriters like me could suggest workflows to help me create good harmonies and chord progressions for my songs, I would really appreciate it.
