iPad version progress

It’s not been mentioned for a while so dare I ask how the iPad version is coming along?

I’ve been doing quite a bit of music on iPad recently and I’ve been surprised how much I miss some of the new Scaler 3 stuff.

And as an aside, let’s muse over me being a stereotypical software user. Give me a new version and I say “Hey, that’s not as good as the old version” but make me go back to the old version and I’ll complain that it’s not as good as the new version.

Hey @boingy We’ve made some progress on Scaler 3 iPad. In fact I have it fully functional and up and running on my iPad albeit with some blockers. We managed to get through most challenges but there are some important ones remaining. Plan is to finish 3.2 and then move back to iPad and work through those challenges. I’ve always been pushing and hopeful of a Q4 release and still pushing and hopeful!

Hi @davide,

I’ve been using Scaler 2 on an iPad Mini and found the interface really hard to read and interact with due to the small font size and tight layout.

I was wondering:
Has this issue been addressed in Scaler 3 for iOS?
Will there be improvements in text scaling, larger UI elements, or even accessibility options for smaller displays?

It would make a huge difference for those of us working on more compact devices.

Thanks in advance!

Roberto

Hi Roberto, exactly the challenges we are facing. It is doubly tough to try to accommodate iPad Mini’s too. Getting there…

So we’re heading in to holiday season. How’s status on iPad version coming along for release for the holidays?

Getting there! Scaler 3.2 feature integrated and now its working through some unique challenges like hosting AuV3 in a host within a host which hasn’t been done before on iOS. The screen real estate and input challenges we are getting through one by one. Let’s hope for an announcement soon! Appreciate everyones patience, the iOS community has been loud and we do not want to let them down by compromising!

Scaler on iPad is going to be the bomb for me. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think Michael Tyson of Loopy Pro has implemented hosting within a host…you can use an app as plug in in AUM for example although it is a full fledged DAW in itself :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for working on releasing Scaler 3 for us iPad users, we all appreciated your hard work but at the same time, I am personally getting quite impatient to put my hand on this wonderful software!

Could you give us an indication if it is going to be released this year or we just have to let it go and wait for the release in the beginning of 2026?

Thanks a million, with respect and itchy hands, Seva

Hi @sevtrex We have AUv3 working! It’s not possible to host AUv3 within another AUv3 - this has been confirmed by some ‘people’ we are working alongside due to the sandboxing restriction:

Apple doesn’t currently allow AUv3 plugins to themselves act as plugin hosts inside the DAW environment (due to sandboxing and resource separation).
This applies to all plugin types that attempt hosting inside AUv3: samplers, FX racks, modular hosts, etc.

As far as release, it would be my goal to start an open beta testing group so we can get it into the hands of some users by the end of this year. However - we are against the clock and Christmas holidays!

We are getting there, it’s really great - fully functional - with most major challenges surmounted. Now we are fine tuning lots of custom code that needed to be created.

Q1 26 will be the release. Thanks for your and everyone’s patience!
