How to change octave in Scaler Leader without affecting follower?

Hi everyone!

Is it possible to change the octave of my chord progression in a Scaler Leader without affecting follower, or vice versa? I would like to change the octave, but still have them sync’d. Thanks.

Hi @Tedness. Your best option is probably to mute the main track on your leader and create a chord follow track. You can then change the chord follow track’s octave without affecting the followers at all.

@Tristan thanks for your reply. I probably should have asked that question the other way around. but maybe it doesn’t matter.

I like the octave and expression the Leader is playing in and would like the followers to play in different octaves. The issue with your suggestion is that the expression the Leader is using gets lost when I mute the Leader’s main track, as the chord follow track just plays block chords. I can’t think of a better solution though.

It would be great to have this as a feature in Scaler - selectable parameters that the user can adjust independently of the sync between Scalers. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s run into this problem.

Hi @Tedness yes there is a lot of discussion surrounding which leader/follower parameters remain synced and we always appreciate the feedback for future updates.

Regarding your current predicament, instead of creating a chord follow track on the Leader, can you instead create a motion track with your preferred motion type? The octave of this track can be adjusted independently. This also applies to your follower tracks.

Hi @Tristan. Thanks for your reply.

I’ve created a motion track under my main track in the leader. I can change the octave of the motion track, but it has no affect on my followers. They continue to follow the octave of the main track of the leader.

Yes it is only the Main Track which is synced. I was simply suggesting a way to adjust the octave of chords on your Main Track without affecting the followers. It sounds like you want all of your follower tracks to play an octave higher or lower than the Leader. Currently this is not possible so you will need to manually adjust the octaves of all of your Follower’s (or Leader’s) child tracks.

@Tristan - thanks. Your workaround is useful if all the followers will follow the same octave as the leader’s main track. It just becomes an issue if there’s more than one follower and one of them needs to play in a different octave to the leader. In that case, it might be best to finalise the progression and then manually change the follower(s) as you suggested.

Hopefully the option to enable/disable which of the leader’s parameters will be sync’d in each follower will be added to Scaler in an update.
