When I set up a group of chords to record using my midi keyboard and start record in Presonus Studio One 7, the chords play back in Scaler but the chords aren’t recording as midi in Presonus. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Hi, if you are playing trigger notes to trigger bound chords then you will only record the trigger note in your DAW. If you want the actual chords in your DAW there are many ways to do this. MIDI Capture and Drag and Drop would work. Check out this tutorial and also the other tutorials in this playlist. Hope that helps.
Drag and drop works great in studio one/studio pro. Go to the arrangement page and click and drag the phrase you want onto a midi track in studio one. Super simple.
You can record midi in studio one too. It just requires a little extra setup. It works really well if you want to bind chords in scaler and play them in with your midi controller. In scaler, set up a midi out channel in the arranger page by clicking the three dots on the track you want to record. This could be the main track or another track. Send it to midi output channel 2 or one of the others. You can use midi output 1, but the main track may already send to midi output 1 by default. I can’t remember. In studio one, on the main track window, make your track vertical hight large enough that you can see the midi input controls. Normally, the midi input will be set to your midi keyboard, but you will want to change that to scaler 3. Once you change it, another dropdown will appear and allow you to select the midi channel. This should match the channel you selected as the output in scaler. Arm the track to record and hit record in studio one. Let me know if you have any issues and I will try to fill in the gaps if needed.
Also, make sure the monitor button is on for the instrument track you’re setting up. The default follows track selection, so you may have to turn it on manually since you’ll be on the scaler 3 track while playing.
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
Thanks Kenny. This is very helpful. I’ll check it out.
