How can I record my midi keyboard notes and use them in Scaler 3?
To record your MIDI input: in your DAW check that Scaler âlistensâ to your keyboard, in Scaler press REC button, select âDetect MIDIâ and play.
Hi Vlad,
Scaler shows on the virtual keyboard that I am playing Chords, but the recording is only unison.
I only had it once at the first recording, that Scaler 3 recorded chords.
Do you have any idea what went wrong?
Thank you!
My guess is that S3 only interprets and records chords, not single notes or performance. But weâd better ask Davide about this.
Hi,
It was recording one time chords, and than it starts only to record single notes, even it shoes, I play chords.
Despite what I choose from the keys lock menu.
I admit that this looked easier in Scaler 2, but in fact nothing major changed.
When playing single notes, Scaler 2 showed A B C D etc.
while Scaler 3 shows A Unison B Unison C Unison D Unison etc.
The important is that in the middle section you can see the suggested scale, in your case C#/Db Major Scale.
In both Scaler 2 and Scaler 3 you can do as follows:
If your case, the tirst âunisonâ note is, C#. In the section B youâll find C dim. Drag it to the section C. This will be your root note.
The following one is D# unison. In Current Scale find D. This is Db maj, drag it to section C. Do like this for other notes. Unison in A â chords in B â section C.
Then try playing your notes accompanied by the found chords. Youâll probably need to tweak a bit, but mainly youâll have your scale and chords tat match the melody. Not all the chords will be necessary used as some of them will be good for more than one note, but by listening, you will keep the âgoodâ chords and remove the unnecessary ones.
This is the video I recorded with your melody and detected chords. OK, near the end I changed the order of some notes because I could not remeber them. But the resulta is quite pleasant.
I did it in Reaper, but this will be the same in yur DAW.
Thank you! Thatâs what I guessed.
But I thought, one can play the chords direct to section A or C?
What I expected, it may canâŚ
But again: thanks!
Oh yes, you can play chords in Section A and these chords should be detected. I thought you wanted to find chords from melody. Section C is where you drag to your chords from A or B if you have a chord progression and not single notes in A.
I find Scaler 2 far easier to use when recording Midi notes & Chords.
Hey @Bondson Welcome to the community. If you turn off DAW sync, Scaler 3 should record notes and chords exactly the same as Scaler 2. MIDI Capture should also work exactly the same. Let us know if you need some help and please check our tutorials. These two might help:
Hello Davide⌠thanks for the response, I will try turning off DAW Sync and refer to the two Reveal videosâŚThanks again.
Tony.
