Having trouble with a seemingly easy issue. Can someone help me?

I’m probably just a big idiot, but can someone help me with something? I read the manual and searched Youtube, but im lost.

I have Scaler 3 in Ableton Live Suite 12. I’m playing a set of chords locked in my “Chord Set” using a single note on my MIDI controller. Awesome. Sounds fantastic.

When I hit record on Ableton, it just records my single note.(Makes sense.) But I want Scaler 3 to send Ableton the actual chord MIDI info and not just the single note im playing on my keyboard.

How do I set this up easily?

Also, is there a simple way to send chord notes while playing on my Scaler 3 track to another track?

Appreciate any help and your time. Thank you.

I’m not an Ableton user but it sounds like a midi routing issue, check to see that your armed track in Ableton is set to record midi from the Scaler track.

This is easy to setup. Here is a description of how to do it, as well as a picture - hopefully for clarity.

  1. Put Scaler 3 on a new midi track. Select ‘In’ in the midi section. (This enables your keyboard).
  2. Create another new midi track.
  3. Select Scaler 3 in both drop down menus under the ‘Midi from’ heading.
  4. Arm the track for recording via the red switch.

That’s it. Let me know how you go.

Thank you for the response! Almost there… is there a way to get Scaler to send the actual chord thru the MIDI instead of just the single note im playing on my keyboard?

If you set it up as I described above, and then record into the second midi track (not the one with Scaler 3 on it) you should get exactly what Scaler is playing, i.e. chords with any motions applied.

Here is what I get when I do that:

You are the man! Thank you!!!

Last question if you dont mind, can I make the Scaler track itself show the chords instead of just single note?

Sorry, you can’t do that in Ableton. I also use Logic Pro, and you can do it there - however, due to limitations in the way Ableton routes midi, having another track is the only way.

You can, of course, drag and drop the actual midi from any track or segment of a track within Scaler 3 to anywhere in Ableton. Maybe that might help?

For sure, thank you for letting me know. There are so many posts on here its a little overwhelming trying to understand what everyone is referring to, so I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer my questions.

Take care

Scaler is a fantastic plugin, but it can be a little daunting initially to wrap your head around.

The Scaler team did a really great tutorial series of videos for Scaler 2, which I personally found a brilliant way to really get the most out of it. It cost something like $10 or $15 but was so worth it for me.

I believe they are planning another series for Scaler 3 soon.

Good luck with your musical journey… :+1:
