Delete Chord should have a 'Remove Empty Space' option

A user would only have one of two reasons to delete a chord in the middle of a sequence. Either they want to replace the chord, or they want to get rid of the space the chord occupies. Since there is already a simple method to replace a chord (drop a new chord or rest on top of it) more than likely a user would only delete a chord to remove it from the sequence. Currently, when a chord is deleted it is replaced with a dead space and if the user wants to close the hole they have to select all the succeeding chords and drag them to the left. That’s OK if there’s only a few chords to move. But if there’s 100 chords following it, it’s impractical to try to move them all. Maybe a better solution would be to automatically replace a deleted chord with a rest and then have a right-click option to delete the rest and close the hole. Or add an additional option in the existing right-click to Delete Chord and Remove Space This would seem to make sense because that’s what the most common desired end result is in the first place.

Hi @dwcrook When there are empty spaces you can hit the three dot menu and select ‘Remove Empty Spaces’.
You are right though, it’s a good idea to have a right-click option to ‘Delete and Remove Empty Space’.
Thanks for feedback.

Thanks, that’s good know as it will save me a lot of frustration. I may have missed it in the User Guide, but if that menu is not covered there, it would be a good idea to include in the next release.

I’d really like to see more stuff in those context menus and a large red banner somewhere that tells users how to get to the context menus!

Well we have an on-board tutorial pop up on first load with the first seven slides devoted to iPad gestures and a bunch of support videos and a manual too. Not sure what else we could do. Seems most of our users have got it, maybe the beta testers didn’t as they had dismissed the tutorial early?

@davide, I think the gestures were explained as part of the first beta “blurb” but the problem is that there were already precedents for this stuff in other iOS software but Scaler 3 has ploughed its own furrow in this regard. Most users would automatically try a long press and maybe a two fingered touch but I can’t recall any other iOS software that uses the same method as Scaler 3. So you are relying on folks reading the manual and paying attention to a tutorial for their shiny new toy that they just want to play with. Maybe consider a few more hamburger or “3 dot” menus around the place that duplicate the context menus.

Incidentally, I don’t know if it is true of all mice but I have an el cheapo Bluetooth mouse that happily works with the iPad but the right button does nothing in Scaler 3. That button does work in some other apps, although it’s not something I have used a huge amount with the iPad. I was mostly using it to make the section C scroll bar easier to manipulate.

Yes it appears that way but Scaler consumes long press when playing chords! It also consumes double tap for performing chords! Things aren’t as straightforward as they seem and we spent much time and tested many solutions and landed where we are. It was by far the best solution we tested.
