Crash when Lassoing Main Track [FIXED]

Hi - I’m on MacOs Ventura 13.7.4, Studio One Seven, Scaler 3 1.0.5. Happy to report Scaler is MUCH more stable, but still having one consistent bug:

On Mixer page, when trying to lasso the entire chord progression in the Main Track, Studio One crashes. This doesn’t happen when trying to lasso all chords in the Main Track on the Create page. But it’s consistent on the Arrange Page.

Not sure if you’ve implemented a “select all” keyboard command that would eliminate the need to lasso all chords, but that would be amazing!

Hmm strange I wonder if this is a Ventura thing? @Tristan This isn’t happening for you? @GoliathGrouper Do you have the latest update of Studio One 7? Can you send a crash log?
Yes we have implemented a select all in the three dot menu and right click menu! Coming in 3.1

HI Davide, was Select All implemented only for Mac, because I don’t see this option on Windows? In fact, I even didn’t know that this existed (but wanted this functionality).

Did you mean these thre dots?

Nor can i see it in the right-click menu.

Hi @Miki You missed the coming in 3.1 option! Should have a beta for you next week!

Well, @davide, of course I cannot now recreate it! And here I was all prepped, recording my screen, and it works fine!

Perhaps it was the specific 3rd-party plugins I was using… Anyway, if it reoccurs, I’ll record the conditions and get you the crash report.

I think I need new
This will be great.

No I cannot replicate this crash on Mac OS Sequoia 15.4.1 in Studio One 7 with Scaler 3.1.0.5.

I had identical issue on Win 11, but fixed it by deleting C:\Users[user]\AppData\Roaming\Scaler 3\scaler 3.settings.
Maybe this can help you, if you did not try.

Hi,
On Scaler 3 1.0.5, stand-alone mode, fresh install made (again) yesterday, MacOS Sequoia 15.4.1, I was able to crash 7 times in a row when “lassoing” some chord on just loaded Scaler preset “Nice Strings” (which they are actually :-)).

The screenshot below was taken a ms before the now systematic crash. I started the lasso on the Chord Follow track then went left and up and as soon as the mouse pointer touch the last note, badaboum (excuse my French).

.

Guess it may already be solved in beta, and I know how to select without crashing the plane but just in case.

About that, if you have a beta, I’m volonteer and need a beta tester, I’m in too;-)

Cheers
Berthy

Yes that is reproducible for me. The problem with these presets is we made them in a Beta so they have caused legacy issues. Either we can fix them or we recreate them. I will discuss with Dev team. Thanks for reporting.

It’s very consistent on my end, it just crashed at the very moment it was going to loop back at the start, didn’t need to use the Lasso, which unfortunately renders the VST completely unusable at the moment.

I am on Mac OS, running REAPER 7.36, Scaler 3.0.5 (and 3.0.0) crashes consistently when trying to lasso the main track from right-to-left, taking the DAW down with it. 100% reproducible. Seems to happen when the lasso reaches the same chord, but I don’t know if it is because of the chord, the number of selected chords or the coordinate.

Reach out of I can gather some data to help fix this bug.

Hi @CCPRN, welcome to the forum and thanks for your post. If you’re still experiencing a crash after doing a clean install and update to version 1.0.6, could you please share a crash report? On macOS, you can retrieve crash reports via the Console app. Cheers!

This happens when selecting the chords on the Main Track on both standalone and in my DAW (Studio One 7):

Hi @Daren welcome to the forum. Strange to hear this is happening when running both Scaler 3 as a plugin and standalone. Not that it should be happening in either.

There is an issue we are aware of regarding the template presets. Loading one of these presets then playing main track chords can in some cases lead to crashes. These presets will be updated soon to resolve this.

Would you mind please confirming if this crash occurs even when using Scaler 3 from a blank session, rather than a preset? And also have you updated Scaler 3 to v1.0.7?

I’ve no presets loaded and I’m on 1.0.7. Thanks.

Hi @Daren very odd that this is happening standalone as well. Most standalone crashes can be resolved by deleting the standalone state file: /Users/[NAME]/Library/Application Support/Scaler 3.settings

Could you please try deleting this file, then running Scaler 3 standalone and seeing if crashing persists? If so it would be very interesting to hear exactly what leads to a crash. You say this happens when selecting main track chords. Does this mean after strarting from a bank session, you drag chords down to the main track, then Scaler 3 crashes whenever you click on any of them?

Regardless this does sound very unusual so it may be worth attempting a clean re-install via the instructions on the Known Issues forum page:

Instructions for a clean Install:

Mac - Clean Install:

  • Delete the standalone state file in this folder: /Users/[NAME]/Library/Application Support/Scaler 3.settings
  • Delete the personalised files in this folder: /Users/[NAME]/Library/Scaler Music/Scaler 3
  • Delete the shared user files in this folder: /Users/Shared/Scaler Music/Scaler 3
  • Reinstall.

Tip: The Library folder is hidden by default. To access it, open Finder, click Go in the menu bar, and hold the Option (⌥) key to reveal Library.

Hi @Daren I’ve moved your other posts into this thread as they are likely related.

  • Scaler 3 is crashing Studio One 7 on startup
  • Scaler 3 standalone will no longer open (MacOS) - reboot doesn’t work

My suggestions above do apply to both these scenarios so please try first deleting the standalone state file, and if crashes persist please attempt a clean re-install:
