I want to like Scaler 3 but after watching videos, I still can’t get Scaler to stay in the key I want to work in.
I open a session and click “All Scales” and click the D key on the piano. I want to write a song in D minor.
Section B “Current Scale” then shows the key of D options instead of the default C options.
This is where I get lost. The moment I click on “Common Progressions” in section A, the key of D options I had just set up in section B return to the default key of C options.
How do I LOCK Scaler into only showing me key of D options and not defaulting back to the key of C?
I simply want to audition variables in section A in the key I want to write in, and not have it go back to key of C. I’m not a NASA engineer, but I’m also not a dumbass. Where do I lock my preferred key in?
Browsing Chord Sets will always change the scale to the Chord Set based scale. If you want to remain in your user selected scale hit the lock icon to the top right (right side of the Section A) and chord sets will lock to your currently selected scale. Scaler has always behaved this way. Hope that helps.
When I try to select a key on the B section it is not working I have the latest version 1.0.3. I can manually scroll down select a different key than the defaulted C key and the chord appear but when I go to the Common Progressions it resets every thing to C.
Very frustrating have uninstalled and re installed to no avail.
Am I doing somethig wrong am I missing a setting somewhere.
Hi Gord. I think I see the confusion here. In Scaler 2 there were several lock options including Maintain Current Scale, Maintain Current Tonic, and Force into Scale. This was considered a little confusing and bloated so the process has been simplified in Scaler 3 with the ‘Lock Chord Set to Current Scale’ option. This seemed to represent the most common workflow.
This acts as a hybrid of the previous Force into Scale and Maintain Current Scale options by keeping your selected scale active and automatically transposing the selected chord set into that scale.
If you do not have this lock option enabled in Scaler 3, selecting a Common Progressions chord set will usually automatically select the C Major scale, as these are mostly written in the key of C Major. I imagine if you select a chord set from the artists or genres category a different scale will be selected.
It sounds like you would rather an option to simply maintain your selected scale without transposing the chord sets you are browsing. This way if you had the F Minor scale selected, and you click on a Common Progression chord set, the F Minor scale would stay selected however the Common Progression chord set would remain in its original key e.g. C Major without transposing. Does that sound right?
