Win11 new Midi implementation hurts Scaler 3 users in Ableton Live (w Update)

You might know, there is a new Midi implementation on Win11. For example, a midi keyboard is not any longer exclusive to one DAW anymore. Now you can play VST instruments in Cubase and Reaper and Ableton Live at the same time with one midi keyboard! Took MS long enough. But unfortunately, virtual midi solutions like LoopMidi do not work anymore. MS knows this and they hope to solve the issue till May. Until then we will have to rely on Live Sync when using Scaler 3 in Ableton Live.

Update: It seems, you have to stop midisrv and restart it in services. After that RTP Midi and things like LoopMidi should work again as expected. This is not a fix but a way, to make things work :man_shrugging:

Hi and sorry for the bad english.
So, if you’re not on the Windows Audio/Midi Discord Page i highly reccomend to go there:

You have all enabled on your system, so you can download the midi service tools from here if you don’t have them yet:

When you install everything, after a reboot now you are able to configure your Loopback ports directly in Windows, no Loop Midi needed.

But if you want to use Loop Midi, after the app is started, open Windows Midi Settings and in the Troubleshoot section, restart the midi service.

Now Loop Midi ports are visibile.

You have to do It everytime.

But…if you are like me and you’re having a tons of issues, you can do this:
Disabile all new midi services and go back when everything worked.

You are still able to use your midi devices in Multiclient mode.
It disabile the new Stack that causes issues.

They are planning to fix Loop Midi issues in May.

This method works if you will not update Windows. Numbers will change in future and you have to enabled It again when everything works as expected.

So follow them on Discord for updates it’s the way to go.

Thanks! This is super helpful! :folded_hands:

I’m afraid my contribution here is a bit low-key, but since the 25H2 update, I cannot connect a couple of my midi devices at all. (X-Touch control surface and a DIN to USB interface). After asking an AI assistant I ran the tool which looks for whether the W11 midi2 system is installed and concluded that I am in some sort of no-man’s land with the new system half installed. Is anyone else having difficulties connecting physical midi/usb equipment? Is there a workaround or do we have to wait for a Windows Update? Will that be in May too?? Any advice truly welcomed. Otherwise I might have to get my old W10 machine out… Apologies this is not solely a Scaler problem, although StudioOne will sometimes fail to load a song with Scaler3 in it. Often have to open without VST3’s and then add later…
