Verification that Detector essentially does the same detection that Scaler 3.2 does in it's GUI

I am a bit confused about the use of Detector. Doesn’t Scaler 3.2 offer the same abilities bundled in. Is the main purpose of Detector to have a stand-a-lone lightweight option or for those that only want to do detection and not leverage the features of Scaler?
