Hi … I have researched this question but haven’t found the answer to this specific question. I have bound a set of chords so that I can play them in real time. I can point Scaler 3 to EZKeys 2 and hear the Scaler chords being played by the EZKeys piano. So far, so good. What I would like to do is use an EZKeys groove (midi phrase) to act like a performance in Scaler. Ideally, when I hit a key on my controller, Scaler will send a chord to EZKeys and EZKeys will play them in real chord using whatever groove I have selected. Is this possible or do I need to import the EZKeys groove into Scaler 3 as a User Performance?
You can get it into Scaler but with limited utility. You cannot save the user pattern to reuse and it doesn’t follow the chords in Scaler.
Getting the user patterns from EZKeys into Scaler isn’t that accurate anyway. As far as I can tell, the only way to input a user pattern is to record midi played into the track. You can hit the record button in Scaler and then the play button for the track. How well you could move it to start at the correct time is debatable. Since you can’t save the track for reuse, it would only exist in that particular Scaler session.
Once it is in there, Scaler also doesn’t handle the sustain pedal information (or any other MIDI CC information as far as I can see.) so it really isn’t that much of an advantage over just manually editing midi.
Once they create the ability to make custom patterns in Scaler that you can save, it could be useful but that opens up a whole other can of worms as far as the terms of service that goes along with EZKeys, depending on your intended use.
Also, at that point, Scaler basically becomes a full fledged midi specialized DAW which may not be where they headed with development.
It would be nice though…
