Track presets for MIDI routing and voice-aware motions

Hello,

I’ve recently started using Scaler 3 on iPad as part of a hardware synth setup. So far, it’s been an excellent tool and has already had a noticeable impact on the sequences I’m building. Thanks for developing it!

External MIDI output has been essential for this integration and is working reliably. One friction point, however, is that MIDI routing needs to be reconfigured each time I add a new Motion. In practice, this means repeatedly setting the same output device and MIDI channel.

It would significantly streamline the workflow to have something like “track presets,” where a device configuration (name, MIDI output, MIDI channel) could be saved and quickly recalled when assigning a Motion.

Extending that idea slightly, it could also be useful if such presets included voice configuration (monophonic, duophonic, polyphonic), allowing Motions to adapt accordingly. Sending full chords to monophonic instruments can produce unintended results, and there have been times where I wished there were monophonic versions of polyphonic motions, if that makes sense?

Apologies if any of these are functions already and I just haven’t RTFM’d enough, and thanks for all the hard work!

Hi @AMackie thanks for the good vibes. Appreciate the feedback. in a forthcoming update, Scaler 3.3 we will allow changing motions on a track which I think will help. Meanwhile, have you considered just saving a template with your preferred setup?

Hi @davide , thanks for getting back to me. A template would work, but only if it’s possible to change the motions (otherwise the same issue occurs any time I need to add a new motion). So if 3.3 addresses that, then that would solve it! Thanks

Perhaps you would still consider implementing Track presets in a later update, just to make preset changes easier? It’s not a huge issue though and I am sure you already have a lot of plans to develop. Thanks for all the work!
