Reaper hangs or crashes with Scaler 3.2

Hi Steven,

Thanks for your speedy reply. I’ve downloaded and run the installer and unfortunately it hasn’t resolved the problem. I tried both the VST3 & VST2 versions of Scaler 3 and both caused Reaper to close.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for trying the beta build and for the update. Would you be able to share a crash report? On Windows, crash details are usually recorded in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application. If you can export the relevant Application Error entry for Reaper and share it here (or via DM), that would help us investigate further. Cheers.

Hi Steven,

Below are three application error logs. Two of them will be from the beta build VST3 & VST2 attempts. I’m not sure what the third is from but I thought I’d include it in case it proved useful to you. Let me know if you need any further info or if I can try any more beta builds for you.

Regards,

Alan Hoskins

Hi Alan. Thank you for going to the trouble of pulling those logs - really appreciate it. I’m going to pass everything over to our dev team and have them try to reproduce the issue on their end. We’ll come back to you once we have more to share. Thanks again for your patience.

Could you also send me the beta? Scaler 3.2 is suddenly not working on my Win11 whatsoever. Standalone won’t load at all, (background process gets stuck and needs to be ended via task manager), vst2 and 3 won’t load in any daws at all…just hangs and crashes. I have done clean uninstalls via Revo Uinstaller Pro and reinstalled, which hasn’t fixed anything. Have no idea what went wrong since I really haven’t changed anything on my PC…wondering if Win11 added an update that is making Scaler 3 suddenly not work. (scaler 2 still works)

It is not Windows update. I have Win 11 Home, Scaler 3.2 and Reaper 7.61, and have no problem.

Hmm but what Windows 11 build update are you currently on? I am using Win 11 Pro, version 25H2, OS Build 26200.7840. And I really haven’t changed anything around on my PC lately that in my mind would cause the plugin to suddenly stop working. I own hundreds of other vst3 plugins without issue, and like I said I did a thorough unistall a few times getting rid of what I think would be all traces of Scaler 3. I did remember I had an older version, Scaler 3.1.3, which I just tried installing and that one works without issue. 3.2 is still DOA.

I have exactly the same build as you.

I could still have a variation different from you causing the issue; a security or cumulative update within my Windows that I updated and you didn’t for example… I mean there’s a lot of potential differences here. Maybe there’s some driver clashing, who knows, but I would find that odd considering Scaler 3.1.3 is running without issue but 3.2. is hanging …something obviously changed from 3.1.3 to 3.2

Hi @Greta. I’ve sent you a DM with a beta build. We’d be interested to hear how it goes. Feel free to post any questions or feedback here, or via DM. Thanks.

Hey Steven, thanks ! Unfortunately it still behaves exactly the same! Re-installing 3.1.3 gets it up and running again. I’ll have to re-install it to see if I can get any crash logs from a daw, I will try my best over the weekend to do that and send you the info if that helps… thanks for the reply!

Hi @Steven. Just wanted to let you know that I updated Reaper to version 7.64 today and Scaler 3.1.3 ran without crashing Reaper and I was able to access various functions. I then installed the beta build version you sent me (Scaler Music - Scaler 3 - PC 3.2.0-develop-8780.exe) and Scaler 3 loaded without any problems and showed the tutorial. I exited the tutorial and could use various functions without any problems.

Alan Hoskins

Hi @Greta and @MrCrumbly, thank you both for the updates.

Alan - great to hear that the beta build worked well for you in Reaper. Appreciate you testing it and reporting back.

Greta - thanks for the info, and sorry to hear you didn’t see an improvement. We have a 3.2.1 update coming out soon, which includes the fixes from the beta build plus additional improvements. Once it’s released, I’d recommend doing a clean install of 3.2.1 to see if that resolves the issue you’re seeing. You can also bookmark the Scaler 3 Latest Version thread to get notifications when new releases are available.

Hi @Steven. Just as a final update, I have installed Scaler 3.21 and it works fine with Reaper v7.64.

Thanks for your help.

Alan Hoskins
