Please focus on improving what is here for 3.2, before new features

I’ve tried to be heard in other threads but no response from any developers.

Some very basic things are still not working right after 3.1. Can the next update please start collecting and actually working on these? I understand the excitement around the future of Scaler and the new capabilities, but some existing features were never well implemented and remain buggy enough that for many, Scaler is still too inconvenient/clunky to use or trust in real projects.

  1. The plugin host feature still needs work to the degree it prevents me from wanting to use Scaler. It is not convenient to load plugins within since Scaler will not pass mouse wheel and keys to the instrument plugin. Also, in some DAWs/hosts (Maschine 3, Sonar, and others) the plugin GUI of any VST loaded within Scaler slams shut the instant focus returns to Scaler window. This makes a user have to reopen the plugin every time they touch Scaler so idea generation is tedious. A user cannot tweak a thing in Scaler and then in the plugin without frustration and workarounds. I just want to use VST within Scaler like every other host: Open the plugin, it stays open! Use mousewheel or QWERTY keys to change a VST control or browse presets, and it actually works!

  2. Just what is the Scaler piano roll?! It doesn’t work anywhere even close to any other piano roll. If all it can do is whole note chords, and most of the split and length controls still do not work well (or at all?) on Scaler 3.1, the point of it escapes me. If this is all about chords in whole notes, why not make a different interface to do that or just drag straight to the DAW for real editing capability? Otherwise if the intent is to support chord progressions and also arps and sequences and motions with finer control and shorter notes in places, lets get a proper but simple sequencer with basic features that actually work! Arturia’s newest synths are a fine example of a very basic but robust piano roll built into the synth interface (Advanced->Sequencer tab of any new synth such as the JUP-8000V, MiniFreak, etc). If Scaler Piano roll will continue to be clunky, I repeat, is it really worth it? I personally have no interest in arranging ideas or multi track arranging inside Scaler unless it works in an intuitive way. I don’t need it to be a DAW. I do need it to have idea generation features that are 100% usable, or those features should be either removed or out of the workflow by my option.

Those are my top two complaints keeping me from adopting Scaler into my workflow in a meaningful way. There are many other neglected issues people have posted if one reads the forums. If Scaler 3 is to be an arrangement idea tool rather than just a chord browser, the plugins handling and arrangement features need serious attention. Once all the stability issues are worked out for most users, all the reasonable complaints with existing features should be looked at. The existing interface and feature set needs to be refined until the most basic features it includes work well and intuitively for a majority. Refinement should be the entire focus on the next revision(s), not new features, in my opinion.

Thanks for listening.

Yeah I’m with you on #2… while it doesn’t bother me personally (I just don’t use it) I don’t get it’s inclusion other than being able to say it has one.
