Pattern generator

I know some people have already mentioned this, but I’d like to talk about a guitar riff and solo generator (Especially for rock music).
There’s an abandoned project called Riffler. The concept is pretty good, but the developer has neglected it for about a year. I think it’s hopeless.
I was hoping Scaler 3 would include this feature, but unfortunately, only a few patterns were added. Adding this feature would make Scaler a perfect sequencer.
So, it would be great if Scaler 3 could provide this functionality in the next update.
Thank you!

I really like playing with the MIDI Modifiers for any motion, they are really intuitive and just work. They can add harmony, change range, thicken, reduce density, change length it all there. Possibilities are endless and more in control and fun than other random generators.

Hi, Davide.
Are you referring to the one in Cubase? Sadly, not everyone uses it.

No, the ones in Scaler 3!

Ah, I see. I’m talking about a generator, but not a modifier. Or if more patterns are added, it’ll be helpful as well. Don’t get me wrong. I’m pretty satisfied with Scaler 3. The new version is really useful.
Thanks!

I had Riffer 3, and I remember what it was able to do
I think an alternative can be an arpeggiator
There are 2 good and free to test
One is called BlueArp
Another one is Randarp

Do you mean Riffer by Audio Modern? I don’t think it’s been abandoned, it just does what it’s supposed to do very well.

If you’re looking for an alternative, try Venomode’s Phrasebox (soon to be Phrasebox 2, I’m testing the beta).
It’s more or less the only arp/sequencer I’ll ever need.

Hi
I still use Riffer, but newer ones are more abundent. Try something like InstaComposer or Melody Sauce or StepicVST. Good arpeggiators are harder to find, but I like guitar related ones most.

Some of you are confusing Riffer with Riffler

RIFFER by Audiomodern™ | The Creative MIDI Sequencer

Riffler: Instant Guitar Riffs App. Home. Endless inspiration, just a tap away.

Both good but very different. Riffler is an iOS app that was going to be ported to Windows VST but seems to have stalled.

FWIW, Band-in-a-Box’s solo-generation capabilities continue to impress me.

Hi, Claudio.
I’ve used all kinds of midi generators, including the ones you recommended, but none of them is impressive.

Hi, Ben
Phrasebox is pretty good among the midi generators.

You are right. Most midi generators are designed for EDM, Hip-Hop or Pop, but not for Rock. Riffler could be a really good one though. It’s sad.

I usually use EON-Arp by Modalics but looks like Phrasebox does much the same with the addition of a generator. Any idea when v2 might be dropping?

I don’t know when, but if you own version 1, the beta is available. Version 2 is also a free upgrade.

Being able to load MIDI Effects as an instrument (e.g. Phrasebox 2) for a Chord Follow track for instance would be a useful way to be able to use your own patterns in Scaler 3. Being able to load a MIDI Effect Plugin, followed by an Instrument and then Audio Effects would be the GOAT in terms of workflow. MIDI Effect ==> Instrument ==> Audio Effects

Being able to use Phrasebox 2 (and MIDI effects in general) in Scaler 3 would be the ultimate, if you want your own phrases/patterns/arps in one program. MIDI Effect ==> Instrument ==> Audio Effects

Exactly this. For people who want to use their own ideas for patterns, this is perfect use case.
Personally, I don’t use the motions, or whatever for same reason I don’t use Unison midi packs. Feels a bit unfulfilling.
