LOL - Unison MIDI packs. Scaler 3 is the greatest app out there for creating chord progressions - no need for MIDI chord packs at all. Chord generation is Scaler 3’s really strong point - it’s being able to use your own MIDI arp, generative arp, etc. MIDI effect plugins that I’m talking about and having Scaler 3 chords that you created controlling each of these tracks.
Yeah, I agree 100%. My point is, for me, I find the rest of the features superfluous.
I am actually really liking the new features, especially being able to create multiple tracks in Scaler itself - just feel it will be an absolute beast if it had the option for MIDI EFFECT ==> INSTRUMENT ==> AUDIO EFFECTS, instead of just INSTRUMENT ==> AUDIO EFFECTS, like it currently is. I basically think that all hosting software should have this workflow, despite its built-in features/functions, as it makes anything possible and gives users the ability to use their favourite MIDI EFFECTS effectively. Pretty please consider this, @davide. It will just give users the ultimate control over their created MIDI chords / patterns, etc. generated by Scaler 3.
Doesn’t interest me. I don’t want to use a complex plugin, inside a complex plugin.
I would prefer Scaler have some tools for creating my own patterns.
Deva, have you looked at Phrasebox? It’s quite useful and unique.
Sure, I’ve looked at it. It is something of a competing product with Scaler 3.
One thing is, I can put Scaler 3 on a track, then add Phrasebox and Phrasebox will be driven by the chords from Scaler. So if someone wants to use the two together, they already can.
Second thing, I expect Scaler 3 will be adding some similar capability as that is the logical development direction of the new version. I would much rather have Scaler add the ability of user phrases/patterns than depend on another complex semi-DAW like plugin.
Was just asking in general, to use with or without Scaler. Probably the most complete arp / sequencer I’ve ever used, and I’ve tried a lot.
I agree, Scaler needs this kind of functionality, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not really satisfied using preset patterns, but at the moment I’m back on Scaler 2, as it’s rock solid.
What you call complete, I call overly complex… hehe. Seriously, Phrasebox looks well made, but it’s not for me.
Much of the time I am fine with preset patterns. For example, Scaler 3 has a bunch of Arp patterns and they would cover maybe 70% of my arp needs. Especially with the modifiers I can quickly make most arp patterns I use and no need to spend time drawing notes at all.
We can already edit the midi notes in Scaler 3. The only thing it needs is to be able to make my edits dynamic (following the chords) and it’s good to go. (besides stability of course)
Right now at Plugin Boutique, you can get UJAM’s Sparkle 2 for free. It’s not a pattern generator as such but a virtual guitarist and how I would use it in Scaler 3 would be via a user track in the arrange section.
This would be the ultimate solution - just thought that it may take a while to implement, so having a MIDI effect plugin slot before the instrument and audio effect slots should be able to be implemented quicker (I think, as I’m not a programmer) than waiting for fully dynamic pattern creation functionality in Scaler 3, which follows the chords (like Phrasebox 2 has). It will also allow the use of third party MIDI effect plugins within Scaler 3 for users who want that / want to use their generative MIDI effects, etc.
I can already do that. I add Scaler 3 to a track, then put a midi effect plugin following S3 and it receives the chords from S3 and does what it does.
Do you want to enter a specific line that can be adapted to different scales and modes? Rather than just being able to transpose the pitch? Or are you thinking of more complex applications?
+1 for a RIFFER equivalent that works similar parameters as Arps and so on (keeping attached to Main Track / blue notes)
