Could you please help me figure out how to achieve the following scenario?
I create a melody in my DAW
I import the MIDI file into Scaler 3
And here’s where I run into a problem:
Scaler detects the key and chords, but it doesn’t match them to the melody. I have to manually adjust the suggested chords to fit my melody.
Is there a way to do this automatically?
Your case matches my main workfkow that did not change for years.
At this moment, this cannot be achieved automatically. The reason is quite simple: the same note can match different scales
This is how I do:
Record melody, either MIDI or instrument
Pass it through Detect in Scaler
Depending on your melody, you may have some scale or chord suggestions
When you’re making your melody, do you have in mind what key your song is in? If so, try setting Scaler to look for chords within the intended key. Hope this helps.
Looking at the big picture, you are the one creating the music. Like @Miki said, any note can be in more than one key. You might even want to go outside the key of the song in some places. So there’s always some manual work to do to make it yours. After all you are the musician, not Scaler.
